About this listen

Church minster village - picturesque, quaint, sleepy - OR NOT...A place where women know exactly what they want, and it's not cream tea with the vicar. A place where anything can happen . . . so be careful what you wish for. And a place where the men had better behave . . . because the ladies won't take it lying down (well, not unless they want to!)

A local girl is planning to take her horse to Cheltenham, but has an accident and has to bow out gracefully. A new, painfully shy, jockey takes over and the trainers try to take him under their wing; but it proves very hard. The family of three headstrong women in the village each have their own problems with returning exes, children or lack thereof and work. Good listen.

Jilly Cooperesque

This was the first audio book I had purchased from Audible. Once I got started, I couldn't turn it off! The narrator is really good and really captures the characters well. I have to admit that it does get slightly confusing as the majority of the female characters' names start with a 'C' but the more you get into it the better it is.

Excellent

Could not bear to stop listening. Just the right number of characters and separate plots to keep you wanting to hear more. The narrator demonstrates an impressive number of voices. Can't wait for the next book by the same author and hopefully read by the same narrator

Brilliant

Absolutely love it! Great story, great mix of characters. Just want to keep listening. Well narrated. I could imagine listening to it again.

Brilliant!

Written in the style of Jilly Cooper, with many expressions and descriptions used by that lady, but the knowledge of the equestrian work is lacking and the story weak.

The narrator’s emphasis is wrong too, eg tack ROOM, rather than simply tack room.

Wouldn’t buy another book by this author.

Jilly Cooper this is not!

This book just didn't do it for me. I didn't give up as it was a 'page turner' as they say. Its didn't offend, delight or do anything apart from just go on. It didn't have much of a story. And was quite a long story. Everything got all sorted out in the end! But they took an long time to get to it! And you knew the ending a beginning!

Much about nothing........

I found the style of writing to be immature, with a rather dull storyline. However it was beautifully read and did become a little more interesting in the second half.

Not for me
