About this listen

Free the crows, Fallon, and they will make you queen.

Until an oracle predicted my regal future, I'd never imagined myself rising above the curve of my round ears. After all, I was the magicless halfling loved by beasts but loathed by every pure-blooded faerie at court. Well...by all but one.

Dante Regio, prince of Luce, had owned my heart since he gave me my first kiss. If gathering a slew of iron relics could help me overthrow the current monarch and crown his brother to rule at my side, then treasure hunting I'd go.

If only the oracle had warned me what winged demon I was releasing into the world.

And that I'd become this demon's obsession.

Fans of Sarah J. Maas and Mary E. Pearson will devour this epic fantasy romance full of deceit, betrayal, and false loves that could swallow a person whole.

I love this story

Brilliant read, the story is captivating, the world-building is phenomenal, and the characters are fantastic. You need to read this if you like fantasy. This story kept me on edge, all the twists and turns where giving me whiplash in the best possible way, I love how original and refreshing this story is going. On the top reads of the year, the narration by Olivia King was good, I recommend you get the audiobook to go with the book, they compliment each other perfectly.

The narrator is awful

Their pronunciation put me off the book. Might opt for the kindle for the sequel. They said ‘quay’ like kway not key, they pronounced the s at the end of debris. And then there’s the posh accent. It really took me out of the book. I enjoyed the actual book fairly well so I will probably continue the series. It’s a classic romantasy plotline, and I enjoyed the crow aspect of the magic.

A good story

A good book, The narrator was good but I found it a little bit off putting that a lot of words were mispronounced making me wonder if it was an American putting on an English accent

Bizarre narration

The story I quite enjoyed, however I will not be purchasing the sequel in Audible because of the very strange narration. The narrator sounds almost as if she is pretending to speak with an upper class English accent, pronouncing so many words in a bizarre way (I am English and can safely say I have never before heard lashes pronounced as 'larshes '!) Sadly the narration ruined my enjoyment of the book.

Unique and interesting

I found this to be an interesting and most importantly a unique story. It contains familiar themes but was a new tale with its own rich lore. I enjoyed the variety of characters and motivations.

I didn’t mind the narrator at all and will happily buy the next book to continue the series.

Loved it

Slow burn story full of intricate details. The girl can be a little daft, but otherwise great read.

Horrible narration

The pronunciation through this was so jarringly bizarre even as a "posh british" baseline. Much, much later in the book I realise it's more of an accent within the books (posh fae schooling) world but by that point I had already switched to the kindle version. Honestly just a baseline voice would have worked better for narration purposes rather than emphasising vowels or adding in "r"s. I would have returned but unfortunately not a credit buy.

Enjoyable

First of all the story is nice but what ruined it for me was the accent of the narrator. A story set in “middle aged” Italy read by a narrator with British accent. I mean she did a great job with the narration but I was picturing England throughout the whole story 😂 her accent was also hard to understand. I had to stop several times and relisten because I couldn’t understand her properly. I think in this case it might be better to read the book. But maybe other listeners have a completely different experience.

The worst narration I have ever heard!

This is a great book and the story, well written. If I would have read it physically, I would have loved it. BUT, the narration was HORRIFIC. The mis pronunciation was so frustrating that there were moments where I was screaming out loud! I am British. I am from Britain. What on earth is Her-arse-ment? - the word you need is harassment! or Eye-laaarshes? ITS EYELASHES! The word "clad" is not "claaard". Pants are not "paaarnts". like seriously? I have NEVER left a review on audible this long. It is infuriating and frustrating and has definitely made me switch back to books. I feel like I have wasted a credit and I'm massively annoyed.

Dodgy narration

The narrator overdid the English accent leading to some very strange pronunciations that detracted from what was otherwise an excellent story.
