About this listen

Amazon #1 bestseller in Historical Romance and Regency Romances

The spirited Catherine Malboeuf has just arrived in England to reclaim her ancestral home, Walsley Manor, and a valuable missing heirloom. Nicholas Adair, the attractive and frustratingly inflexible Duke of Boulstridge, however, is quite unwilling to sell the estate back to Catherine. Unless, of course, she accepts a small wager . . .

Nick will sell Walsley Manor if—and only if—Catherine secures an offer of marriage from an eligible member of the ton before the end of the London season.

Of course, Nick is certain he'll win. After all, no proper gentleman would ever marry a woman who conceals a cutlass in her skirts. Yet something about Catherine's unconventional disposition seems to ignite a need deep inside him. A need that won't just cost him the wager, but the very heart he swore to never give away . . .

Contains mature themes.

The story isn't bad, there is a bit of adventure. I don't know if it was the narration but it didn't sound like a romance everything just sounded the same. Even the sad bits were just sounded exactly like the romance bit. I can't put a finger on why there was no feelings whatsoever.

The narrator did such an excellent job. I all loved the characters , and overall was a pleasant read.

Loved it!

Delightful light hearted story with mystery and I thoroughly enjoyed listening on a rainy miserable day.

Enjoyed very much

The narrator struggled with some accents, but worse was mangling common Regency terms. Suddenly the word curricle occured far too many times in a couple of pages, mispronounced every time.
The writing was OK, but starting with a basic error about a journey from the south through London to Derbyshire that took just a few hours made it obvious the author had not done enough research.
After that I nearly gave up in the first chapter.

Weak knowledge of the period and poor narration

The story was riddled with references that just were not right. Like somebody speaking Cornish in 1820 when the language was already extinct, and why would the heroine be send to London when already at bit too old, just when a sibling was due to arrive, no reasonable explanation was given.

The ending was also a big let down.

And do not get me started on describing a bet as a business relationship. I am honestly baffled why I made it too the end of this one.

Author did not do her research
