About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

This is a book for anyone who feels overwhelmed by life and is looking for an accessible and gentle way to care for their home—and themselves.

Have you ever looked at a pile of dishes in the sink and wanted to crawl back into bed? Or found yourself staring at the overflowing recycling bin thinking, why is my life such a mess?

But what if we stopped seeing a clean house as a reflection of our worth and instead as a kindness to our future self?

How to Keep House While Drowning will introduce you to six life-changing principles to revolutionise the way you approach domestic work, all without a single to-do list. Most importantly, it will help you get free of shame and guide you in coping with stress...and that ever-mounting laundry pile.

This book will help you:

  • Find ways to make your home serve you.
  • Break down domestic work into manageable tasks.
  • Stop negative self-talk around housework.
  • Give yourself permission to rest, even when things aren't finished.

PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying PDF will be available in your Audible Library along with the audio.

The most relevant book I’ve ever read/listened to

I downloaded this book as I’d seen it mentioned on TikTok and when I saw it was only 3 hours long I thought what do I have to lose…within the first chapter I had tears streaming down my face and they didn’t stop until the end! I also suffered with PND last year after having my second daughter and I’ve been left feeling lazy and unable to ‘reset’ ever since.
This book changed all of that in just three hours and I now feel like I can get my life and my home back. Thank you

Brilliant manual for self-kindness

I think the book could be titled "Lessons in self kindness for those with ADHD". I took little bits away from the keeping house bits but so much more away in terms of stopping being so damp hard on myself. I am 50 years old and was only diagnosed a year ago. Realising that not doing the things I've been told 'everyone' does or not doing them the way I think I 'should' and not feeling like a failure for it is the greatest gift I can receive. Thank you KC ❤️

Life changing

I recently found out I have adhd and most of the time I find housework and care tasks really hard and boring! This book is the most realistic self help book I have listened to in a long time! Couldn’t recommend this book enough

Really nice to hear the gentle slow message

Interested in the themes of where the negative messages come from and how to question them. Thanks.

No Shame

Planning days, weeks, months, to get things done and not to be ashamed to take a rest if can’t do it all at once. It, work, does not have to be perfect.

Everyone should read this book!!!

This book has honestly changed my life. I have health issues, mobility issues, chronic pain and chronic fatigue, work and oh and am a single Mum to 2 children and have always felt guilty about the ‘state’ of my house.
This book has helped me to let go of the guilt, to start to make my house work for me rather than the other way round. It’s challenged my assumptions and really helped me to shake off the ‘shoulds’.
It’s so easy to listen to and digest - just brilliant 🙂

For anyone who feels overwhelmed by housework

This is not just for the neurodivergent, but those with depression, trauma, burn out or overwhelm around housework for any reason.

Like many reviewers, I was surprised to find myself in tears as KC identified some of the deep emotional interactions I have with this area of my life and how it related to my self worth.

KC is indeed gentle in her approach. The book feels like having a chat with a good friend who holds your hand and says "you're not alone. You can do this and I'm here to help". She is extremely compassionate and understanding.

She offers lots of practical tips and hacks as well as helping the reader make profound shifts in the way they relate to housework.

The book is really broken down into bitesize chapters, with a fast track option for those who are really overwhelmed and key points highlighted and reiterated as you go through. It is expertly structured.

I'd reccommend this book to any who are overwhelmed by housework or who live with someone that struggles. I'd be inclined to preemptively gift it to any new mother.

It sounds weird but I didn't want to put it down because it was so helpful.
