About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

The far right is on the rise across the world. From Modi's India to Bolsonaro's Brazil and Erdogan's Turkey, fascism is not a horror that we have left in the past; it is a recurring nightmare that is happening again - and we need to find a better way to fight it.

In How to Stop Fascism, Paul Mason offers a radical, hopeful blueprint for resisting and defeating the new far right. The book is both a chilling portrait of contemporary fascism and a compelling history of the fascist phenomenon: its psychological roots, political theories and genocidal logic. Fascism, Mason powerfully argues, is a symptom of capitalist failure, and it has haunted us throughout the 20th century.

History shows us the conditions that breed fascism and how it can be successfully overcome. But it is up to us in the present to challenge it, and time is running out. From the ashes of COVID-19, we have an opportunity to create a fairer, more equal society. To do so, we must ask ourselves: what kind of world do we want to live in? And what are we going to do about it?

A brilliant history of fascist movements that also manages to be a quite personal reflection on what it is to be anti-fascist. Offers good, actionable advice on how to combat modern-day fascist threat. Well read by the author.

An insightful history

A vital addition to the armoury against modern day Fascism. It should be in the national curriculum!

Well worthwhile listening if you care about human society. Only those trapped in a leftist self defeating sect or a fascist sympathiser would wish to avoid this book.

Essential reading for humans!

Inform yourself and others. This is a great book because of it's clarity and practical advice. It is not a comfortable read, but necessary given the state of our politics at present.

Of the utmost importance!

A brilliantly coherent and informative book about identifying and stopping fascist organisation.

Essential for anyone concerned or confused by the strange trends in post 2010 politics.

Contains a great summary of the history of facism.

I will recommend this to everyone.

The Book that the 2020s needs.

An important book which describes fascism both past and present, and how it can be stopped. Paul Mason talks about the origins of fascism and how it has and still does appeal to people. He explains the dangers it holds, and how to spot its rise. Moreover, as the title says, he tells how it can be stopped. Whether you are interested in politics and history or not, this is an important book to understand. Fantastically researched with thorough analysis, it comes highly recommended.

Excellent book

One day, years from now as we are picking up the pieces from war, genocide and other atrocities conducted by the right, gathered around a bin fire at night, slowly dying of radiation poisoning, I hope I still have a copy of this so I can randomly read excerpts and say ‘see, we f*ing told you so’.

I hope some copies of this survive the burnings

An interesting read, some good points, but, a large (read to large) amount is spent blaming Communists and our parties for fascism. Much of his analysis is a Mish mash of ultra leftism and wet liberalism.

Some interesting ideas
