About this listen
This book will make your birth better. It is for every woman and every type of birth.
As featured on Dragons’ Den.
Expert hypnobirthing teacher and founder of The Positive Birth Company, Siobhan Miller has made it her mission to change the way women around the world approach and experience birth. Through her teaching she seeks to educate and empower women—and their birth partners—so that they can enjoy amazing and positive birth experiences, however they choose to bring their babies into the world.
In this book, Siobhan debunks common myths about hypnobirthing and explains why she believes it can make every type of birth a better experience—from a water birth at home to an unplanned caesarean in theatre.
So, what is hypnobirthing? Essentially, it's a form of antenatal education, an approach to birth that is both evidence-based and logical. Hypnobirthing certainly doesn't involve being hypnotised; instead, it teaches you how your body works on a muscular and hormonal level when in labour and how you can use various relaxation techniques to ensure you are working with your body (rather than against it), making birth more efficient and comfortable.
Siobhan's advice and guidance will change your mindset and enable you to navigate your birth with practical tools that ensure you feel calm and in control throughout.
By the time you finish this book you'll feel relaxed, capable and genuinely excited about giving birth.

"Siobhan manages to completely demystify hypnobirthing, making it accessible and relevant to all women and all births. This book will be a complete game changer and I will be recommending it to mums-to-be from now on." (Sarah Turner, author of The Unmumsy Mum)

Up to the point
I like how practical and condensed this is, really good guide when compared to other books talking too much about benefits of hypnobirthing and not giving much guidance to follow.

Informative and useful
I now understand more about birthing and what my preferences are for when it happens. A very useful read for a first time mum.

Felt a bit patronising
My friend recommended this book but I didn’t love it. The tone and some of content felt a bit patronising - I never want to heat the BRAIN acronym ever again. I also had to stop listening for a while and pick back up as it actually made me more anxious!

Interesting but repetitive
Really interesting and learned a lot, however it’s very very repetitive, which gets a bit dull and meant that I zoned out a bit on some bits. Repeats things like how to set the space and what the birth parter needs to provide etc.

Great preparation for labour
I'd recommend this book to any woman who is pregnant and is feeling apprehensive about birth. The tools in this book helped me to prepare for labour in the practical sense e g. what to pack in the birth bag, but more importantly to give me the information and tools I needed to be able to think about and prepare the environment I would be giving birth in. This made me feel calm and ready going into labour which I'm very thankful for.

Helpful
I had an induced, unmedicated birth with my first and was very anxious about the second. This book 100% helped me with my second (much easier) birth - mainly the stories it contained, information about consent and breathing exercises. Thank you

Best book about birth
This book made me feel empowered, calm and excited about giving birth. I like that there are many birth stories interwoven in each chapter, each of them different but positive, showing you how differently births can be like. The book is very practical and useful. I loved it and recommended it to all my pregnant friends.

A guide for mindful pregnancy
The author gave an informative account of how to have a mindful pregnancy and be in-charge of your birth. I also really enjoyed the participation of your birth partner, so I am eager for him to read this so we can both stay informed and have a calm and informed birth together.
The author kept to all the key points, explained them and then ensured to summarise them at the end of each chapter to tie everything together. I found this extremely helpful to reflect on what had just been read.
