Great book but ditch the music!

I really enjoyed this book but found it incredibly annoying at the end of chapters to have to listen to it over music - very difficult for us hard of hearing and also very unnecessary and distracting.
I also noticed quite a bit of repetition, no doubt because the book is drawn from various presentations that Nick Hall has done.
But none of that detracted from what is a great book with a lot of very thought-provoking concepts. I shall definitely listen again.

Not really a book

I have two issues with this audio book: 1. It is not really an audio book, it is clearly a collection of audio clippings from various talks, events and interviews that the ‘author’ has given over the years, cobbled together, sometimes quite poorly, to attempt to sound like one continuous article. 2. Whilst technically the title does reflect what the book is about, I for one didn’t anticipate that it would be so heavily focussed on physiological elements, and expected something more akin to the standard self-help type text, which it definitely is not.

This is obviously an incredibly clever guy with an amazing understanding of the inner workings of the brain and the human body, but it is for that reason that I often found it too technical. If you are a doctor or other medical practitioner then I am sure you will get more out of it, because you will likely understand many of the terms that are completely lost on many others. Also, the core content of the title is, in my opinion generally hidden amongst the sub-texts, so if you really want to know why you ‘don’t do it’, then you need to be sitting listening intently with pen and paper at hand, not trying to take it in whilst driving or performing some other task that impedes your concentration.

So in summary, for me, this was interesting, not an obvious reflection of the title, and not suitable for my drive to work.

Background tune drove me mad

Had to turn this thing off after a few minutes, Annoying and repetitive background tune.

No idea about the contents of the message.

Listen and take notes!

What a great book! Nick Hall makes his profession accessible. This gives you the answers to staying healthy and managing stress in a healthy way. There is some repetition as the majority of the content is recordings of talks and events he has appeared at, with the last part of the proper book recorded for this purpose, and the last hour an interview which covers the majority of what you've previously heard. That being said, I'm listening to this for the second time, this time with a notebook and pen. There was just too much good information for me to remember and I don't want to waste this. Nick has conducted research to prove the physiological effects that backs up the advice he gives and it makes sense. I'm persuaded. There is the puzzle though of Nick's accent. He sounds vaguely Antipodean, pronounces Wimbledon with a T like a South African, but seems to be an long time American.

Great book

it was narrated very well with lost of information based in science. However, I would have like to have heard more ways to implement change

Fantastic - Turn yourself into a superhuman!

Dr hall gives a lot of great tips related to immunity, productivity and how it all relates to psychology and biology of the human body. He gives specific real life examples that happened to him or people he knows to show exactly how the principles he talks about work in real life situations. I think this lecture series would be hard to improve on.

Great self improvement book

I loved this book. This book offers a good platform for self improvement. It made me aware of my approach to healthy eating, rest and activity (mental and physical). I highly recommend it. MK

This is a must!

What a great book. I wasn't sure what to expect as the title wasn't that enticing but it really is a fascinating listen. It covers lots of ground to help you understand how your mind works. I will be listening to this again im sure!

Don't be put off by the elevator music/jingle at the beginning of the chapters! Most, if not all of the book sounds like the author talking in an auditorium, but actually it works just great.

Right up to chapter 14 this is 5 star. Then it’s atrocious

The majority of this audio book is brilliant and thought provoking. Then some awful exec from Nightingale Conan does a bullying sales pitch which is just gauche, then conducts an interview with the author with as much authenticity and personality as a plastic sheep. Truly dreadful. Stop listening at chapter 13 and you’ll love this audio book.
