About this listen

After the sudden loss of his wife, Michael Turner moves to London and develops a close friendship with the Nelson family next door.

Josh, Samantha and their two young daughters seem to represent everything Michael fears he may now never have. Despite this, the new friendship at first seems to offer the prospect of healing, but then a catastrophic event changes everything. Michael is left bearing the burden of a secret he must keep, but the truth can be kept at bay for only so long.

I wasn’t expecting to get so completely caught up with this book - I couldn’t stop listening

Absolutely gripping

The plot was interesting but in many respects implausible especially regarding the central character whose initial response to the triggering event didn't make sense and whose 'guilt' was very minor compared to the anterior fault of the father. Also Daniel's plotline trailed off. The ghost was especially irritating as a plot device.

overwritten and overlong

Sounded like a machine , really off putting and hard to enjoy the story
Will avoid this narrator in future

Awful narration

Listened to the whole book in the hope something exciting would happen: for me it didn’t.
So many back stories intertwining the main theme that I never felt it really ever got going.
I can’t help feeling I wasted a few hours of my life persevering!
