I Want to Eat My Feelings!

Though the title of 'I Want to Eat Your Pancreas' might seem odd, the story is grounded in a reality that will take you on an emotional freewill. Through its themes of personal growth, self confidence and close relationships, Yoru Sumino creates an engaging character driven story that toys with expectation. On the surface you feel your reading a typical High School romance along the lines of 'Fault in Our Stars' but Yoru takes things to a whole new level. Rather than having the illness be the focus the blossoming relationship of our two main characters and their daily interactions beneath the shadow of an unspecific illness take centre stage.

Riff with beautiful language and imagery from the very outset the book doesn't try to force its raw emotions on to you but allows them to build to the a gripping final few chapters that will leave you needing a moment before moving forwards to the next one. Part of this engaged emotion is captured by the narrationPaul Dateh who effortlessly brings the words to life in an easy manor. Combine this with a similar performance by our named author (to name would spoil_ and the book is complete from a performance stand point.

Overall a briliant novel and if you enjoyed it do go check out the Japanese animated adaptation of it as it captures the story just as good and packs even more of an emotional punch.
