En kall novembermorgon hittas läkaren Torsten Bredvinge död i sin säng i villan på Resarö. Det visar sig att den välrenommerade kirurgen blivit mördad och ärendet hamnar på Vaxholmspolisens bord. Jakten på förövaren leder till flera överraskande avslöjanden om den avlidne och sanningen kommer som en chock, inte minst för änkan.
Samtidigt försöker Skärgårdstidningens redaktör, Angelica Moe, ta reda på vad som gick snett när en ung man från Skarpö oväntat avled under en operation. Ingreppet utfördes vid Karolinska universitetssjukhuset i Solna, samma sjukhus som den mördade läkaren arbetade på, och frågan är om det kan finnas någon koppling till mordet.
