Summary

“It's me, love … I'm The Yorkshire Ripper.”

With new material from personal interviews with Peter Sutcliffe–I'm the Yorkshire Ripper offers a completely new insight into the shocking life and times of one of Britain's most notorious serial killers.

When Peter Sutcliffe spoke those words to his wife Sonia following his arrest in 1981, it marked the end of a killing spree which had terrorised northern England for five years. The nation had been appalled yet gripped by the Ripper and was now fascinated by the man behind the headlines.

But despite millions of words being written about the case since his arrest 40 years ago, the full Peter Sutcliffe story has never been told–until now.

Based on a vast quantity of raw material collected from Sutcliffe himself over a period of 16 years, ‘I'm the Yorkshire Ripper' is the compelling account of the most terrifying series of murders in British history–much of it in the killer's own words.

Really interesting

This was extremely interesting. The story of Sutcliffe has been told many times but this one really stands out. The narrators are brilliant. Highly recommend.

new and interesting facts

loved the informative delivery of Sutcliffe's life and murders. an interesting insight on Sutcliffe and how he viewed himself, his daily life in the years he struck fear into every woman in Leeds, Bradford, Yorkshire. I was a child, and even I recall the Ripper.
It's scary how he perceived his murders as righteous, and expresses no remorse, but is so egocentric, the theft of 2 bottles of coke from the fridge at prison left him incandescent. Even the death of his mother, then in later life his father, cast no glimmer of humanity into this monster. He saw the survivors of his attacks, and the families of the deceased as glory hunters, loving the drama, out to make money.
Few are truly evil, and it's no surprise he was firm friends with Jimmy Saville and Ian Huntley.
Birds of a feather....
If ever there was a hell, it was truly created for these lowlife, he can continue to compete with Brady for the most notorious monster to walk these lands in whatever dungeons they now inhabit.
Prison was too good for them.
And this book highlights Sutcliffe's narcissistic and sociopathic traits.
Excellent read.

Could have been perfect with a good narrator

This book was incredibly well written and researched but the narrator didn't alter his voice between narration and quotations, which threw me sometimes

Well written and Well read

Growing up in Yorkshire albeit a little distance from most of the crimes. Peter Sutcliffe blighted the teenage years of me and many others like me. We had so much freedom in those days and here we were being reminded each time we went out that there was a murderer very close by and to always be on our guard. Listening to the actual geography of how close he was on so many occasions is blood curdling. I'll never believe he had diminished responsibility and thankfully neither did the judge on that day nor the jury. He learned of psychiatric illness first hand through watching his wife and used it as a defence. He was evil with a bitterness toward all women not just working girls. Those women and girls never stood a chance with his cowardly attacks from behind! My heart still goes out to the families who will still be suffering from this man's heinous crimes.

Shockingly intimate portrayal …

… of a monster. Fascinating insight into the murders and the motivation (or pretend motivation) of the killer. Horrifying, but addictive reading even if his justification is obviously fake & his lack of remorse infuriating.
