About this listen
In this at-once hilarious and heartbreaking series, In-Depth Market Research Interviews with Dead People, Alison Espach explores our collective idiosyncrasies, neuroses, and desires through the consumer choices, big and small, that we face every day.
Was there any particular reason that, near the end of your lives, you suddenly stopped buying Bounty paper towels? So begins the first question from Bounty’s market research representative to Paul and Maggie. In this unique short story, a couple who died suddenly in their 50s recounts their use of Bounty paper towels and their sudden switch to a bargain brand near the end of their lives. What appears to be a run-of-the-mill spat between spouses at the Stop & Shop is revealed to be a defining moment of a marriage years in decline and a chance for two people to make sense of their complicated past.

Poignant and funny
Really enjoyed all 3 of these. An amusing take on marriage. Quite original word word (reviews need fifteen words)

Extremely absorbent.
Pardon the pun, but it was.
A very quirky, fun but sad tale that goes much deeper than views on kitchen towel. Kept my attention for the entire hour.
If only they'd said those things to each other when they were alive, they may still be buying Bounty. Or not buying it.
A delightful little find & in my opinion, the best of the three 'in depth' series.

Witty and original story of Bounty paper towels
This is a quirky story of a recently deceased couple being interviewed by a market research analyst on behalf of Bounty paper towels. They look back over their lives and contemplate what went wrong whilst answering questions about brand loyalty and their attitude towards cost, absorbency, sheet size (apparently smaller sheets are a false economy) and strength. This is highly original and it genuinely made me laugh out loud. I still prefer Fiesta though. I don't know, somehow it has a nicer feel than other brands.

Excruciatingly Human (Complimentary)
This is the second story of this series I've read and I am so unbelievably in love with the concept, depth, writing style, and performances! The raw natural emotion this bizarre framing device creates for these little audio dramas is truly phenomenal.
This is an author I will be following closely.

A total surprise - quirky and fun!
The characters develop well through this interview style performance. Having three narrators works well. Amusing and enjoyable, great for a short and quirky story! Well recommended!

Profound
I wasn't expecting the movable feast of a relationship embroiled in the purchase of branded hand towels. I sat reminiscing about the many products that have become like family members and then suddenly we die suddenly.
This production had me pondering on my relationships and the way things take pride of place in our lives when Life as predictable as it is happens and it ends abruptly.
I can only say that this short story is profound in so many ways.

Funny, poignant and highly recommended
I picked this one up because I really enjoy all of Carol Monda’s narration. All the acting was great and the story unravelled in a really clever way.
