Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

When Cass is asked by her father to take on a rare photography project in the Caribbean islands, she really can't see a reason to say no.

But she soon discovers she has more on her plate than photographs, as the remote island has just been hit by a severe hurricane, leaving mass destruction in its wake.

And then she meets Ranulph who it turns out is a bit of an expert in finding the rare rock carvings her father wants her to photograph.

Ranulph insists they must first help the locals in clearing the island and re-building it before they begin their own expedition.

Their journey leads Cass down a path of bravery and self-discovery, and she soon falls for the handsome Ranulph who has been by her side every step of the way.

But does he feel the same?

A tale of friendship, courage and romance, a Katie Fforde novel is here.

Lovely warm hug

The love of places and people run throughout, painting a picture. Lots of warmth and diverse characters.

Kept my attention to the end

I enjoyed the story in general, learned about Dominica and always love a happy ending. I found Cass to be far too reticent about expressing indignation with the American, (whose name I've forgotten) and also much too stupid to be believable on numerous occasions. I have read many of Katie Fforde's other books and not noticed this before. Perhaps because it was read out loud, I couldn't skip the annoying bits? Or the story had to be longer and was padded out a bit too much. I hate being negative so apologise for the criticism.

Struggling to hear.

I am finding the reader in this case is very difficult to hear and words all run in together. So far have not got further than 1/2 way.

Not the usual standard

Maybe this story would have been more believable had it been set in an earlier era, but I found the characters behaved in a very implausible way throughout. The heroine was also somewhat annoying rather than endearing in the naive way she was portrayed. As a follower of this author I was disappointed.

This is a thin story

Although the story is thin I enjoyed this as easy listening at bedtime. I liked the heroine well enough tho I found the readers slow pace for adult characters a bit annoying.

A Katie Fforde heroine in a new location

The narrator seamlessly and successfully carries you by aeroplane and boat to Dominica, an island troubled by storms during the hurricane season. It felt subtly educational in this and many other ways. I knew nothing about life on a Caribbean island before. As we travel round the island with Cassie and sometimes Ranulph too, we see and learn all sorts about life on the island and soak up the surroundings, from the mundane to the sublime, although I don't want to spoil it for you!
