If you want not only an analysis of the ripper crimes but also an overview of how the crimes were perceived, the prevailing attitudes of common people and police; the values that influenced them in this era then this is the book for you. Brilliantly presented information for anyone interested in Victorian policing - not just Jack the Ripper.

Really good details in here, well structured and good narration.

Only critisim at the end at the book there is a summary of the most likley suspects we know about, but somehow is missed off William Bury. I know there are many suspects and the author cant mention all of them, but this is the only suspect we have worth serious consideration.

Compared to other books on the subject, this is relatively short but it’s a fantastic listen. It gives a broad perspective on life in Whitechapel, which would appear more caring and community based then I realised. I’d highly recommend this. A good, informative listen.

I loved this book , unusually putting Victorian society history and Jack the Ripper together. I can certainly recommend it as a great listen if you like history and murder !

I enjoyed the introduction to the events that took place. There were a few points where the tone and attitude of the author felt dated. There were terms referring to people with learning difficulties which were inappropriate as well as outdated attitudes to alcoholism and the deserving poor. Id understand these coming through quotes from the time but they often were the often from the author and jarred.
