About this listen
So why, in 1993, was she running for her life with her children? What had happened to this young woman to make her feel so threatened and so alone? What had she done to make Jermaine and the other Jacksons commit acts of verbal, physical, and legal terrorism upon her, when she only wished to be part of their family?
In Jackson Family Values, she tells about the ongoing hostility, paranoia, backbiting, and jealousy that pervades the family, and how suspected or acknowledged instances of rape, murder, abuse, and adultery have touched all their lives: how the greed and sexual swordsmanship of the Jackson males continually erodes the family fabric, and how physical violence is considered a negotiating tool.
Told with anecdotal humor and honesty, this is the story of how one young woman transcended years of betrayal and disillusionment to regain independence for herself and her children.

Then I listened to this book a second time, and it all came flooding back.
The thing with the Jacksons is there's always a large swath of information you can draw from. Most, by people who never knew the famous family, can be discounted. Lots, by former employees, can also be thrown out because they're usually looking for cash owed to them (it's an unfortunate running theme with the Jacksons). Some by friends can also be discounted because they're also usually looking for revenge.
But the family books? Sons, Daughters, Sisters, Brothers and Wives? That's where things can get more interesting. These are people with an emotional connection to the family that can never be severed. These are the people who have seen the famous brothers at their highest and lowest ebbs and are often the victims of the lower moments.
Margaret, as Jermaine's ex-common-law-wife, is also the co-producer (though lets be fair, she did Jermaine's share of the work too) of one of the fan's favourite Jackson related products, The Jackson's: American Dream. She gave birth to two of Jermaine's numerous children. She tells her story with a conviction that is easily followed and paints a picture of Jermaine that honestly is hard to shake.
If you've read "You Are Not Alone" you'll know that there's a big section of time that Jermaine skips over and this is the section that happens around after the Victory Tour all the way up to Michael's 1993 accusations. This is the period of time Margaret was with Jermaine. If the recollections in "You Are Not Alone" feel too neat and tidy for you, this book will open that can of words right up.
An inside look at the otherside of Jermaine...
