James Joyce (1882-1941) hat besonders mit seinen Romanen "Ulysses" und "Finnegans Wake" die Grenzen der modernen Literatur gesprengt. Obwohl beide Werke angesichts der zahlreichen Wortschöpfungen und der bisweilen bizarr anmutenden Sprachakrobatik äußerst kompliziert, schwierig zu lesen und nahezu unübersetzbar sind, machten sie ihren Schöpfer zum wohl bedeutendsten literarischen Revolutionär des 20. Jahrhunderts.
Engagiert, originell und höchst persönlich führt C. Bernd Sucher, der bekannte Kritiker und Journalist, zusammen mit dem Schauspieler Thomas Loibl durch Leben und Werk dieses trinkfreudigen irischen Dichters, der keinerlei Interesse am verständlichen Erzählen zeigte.
