About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
Over 1 million Discworld audiobooks sold – discover the extraordinary universe of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld like never before.
'Neighbours... hah. People'd live for ages side by side, nodding at one another amicably on their way to work, and then some trivial thing would happen and someone would be having a garden fork removed from their ear.'
When the neighbours in question are the proud empires of Klatch and Ankh-Morpork, those are going to be some pretty large garden tools indeed. Of course, no-one would dream of starting a war without a perfectly good reason...such as a 'strategic' piece of old rock in the middle of nowhere.
It is after all every citizen's right to bear arms to defend their own. Even if it isn't technically their own. And even if they don't have much in the way of actual weaponry. As two armies march, Commander Vimes of Ankh-Morpork City Watch faces unpleasant foes who are out to get him... and that's just the people on his side. The enemy might be even worse.
The Discworld novels can be listened to in any order but Jingo is the fourth book in the City Watch series.

Culshaw is brilliant - each character is distinctive and consistently voiced - I know some haven’t liked the choices of accents/voices but they work for me (and seriously - they can’t match up everyone’s inner narrative, can they?) Vimes as a grizzled Yorkshireman, Carrot’s earnest tones, Nobby’s… well, Nobby, and Vetinari oozes the right mixture of intelligence, ruthlessness and charisma.
The dialogue zings and it’s given me a whole new appreciation for these old favourites. The material is handled respectfully and Pratchett’s humour and darker observations of humanity shine through it all.
I’m absolutely blown away - quite simple brilliant - thank you to everyone involved.
Practically a dramatisation!

Jingo is a delight. The story takes the reader, or listener, on a series of surprisingly relevant circumstances that mirror the world we live in. The absurdity of war and the nonsense that is used to motivate a nation to fight a nation are laid bare in a pointedly humorous way.
I found it difficult to read Disc world novels at first, until Guards Guards. That got my eye in and something clicked. All the books can be read in any order.
For those of us who like to live in the universe that Sir Terry constructed, I have a suggested reading order.

Well read and expertly performed

There are some great insights into people, war and diplomacy in this book. Some good character development too. If you liked the previous books you should enjoy this one.
I have said it before but I still think the older versions of this audiobook should be available so listeners have options regarding which version they prefer. The series is good enough and popular enough to merit it in my opinion.
Very good
