About this listen

When brilliant young painter Marianne Glass is found dead in her snow-covered Oxford garden, her closest friend, Rowan Winter, knows it wasn't an accident.

Rowan's pursuit of the truth takes her into every corner of her friend's life, from bohemian East London to the professional art world, in which Marianne made her name. The deeper she goes, the more Rowan discovers that some secrets are better left uncovered, and others can be lethal....

Quite Boring

I really couldn’t get into this one. The narrator was ok but every voice sounded the same, except for the awful “American” accent. Half the time I didn’t know which character was talking. The whole thing was too drawn out, over 12 hours could easily have been condensed to about 6.

Long and Laborious

The story was good and the performance better, but the book went on forever. This book could have been summed up in 6hrs.
So much added unnecessary paragraphs. I got to the point where I gave up really listening.

Didn't really care who dun it by the end

Would you try another book written by Lucie Whitehouse or narrated by Polly Whitehouse?

Prolly was fine at narration, but didn't care for the writing.

Would you recommend Keep You Close to your friends? Why or why not?

No I wouldn't recommend it, I found it quite pedestrian and the characters unengaging.

Which character – as performed by Polly Whitehouse – was your favourite?

Non of them , that was the problem.

Was Keep You Close worth the listening time?

No it wasn't, it's a "who done it" with the usual twists and turns, but despite a few surprises it left me cold, I picked it because of the Oxfordshire setting but wish I hadn't.

Any additional comments?

If you enjoy good writing and in depth character studies, this isn't for you, I was left not caring who killed who, why, where or when.

A little disappointing

A very slow suspense type story, like a psychological thriller, but the characters lacked depth and I found it easy to guess who the 'baddie' was before it was revealed. Also for a psychological thriller the storyline was totally unrealistic.

Disappointing

Listened to another title by the author and loved it so was excited to listen to this one … so was sorely disappointed … drawn out story, shallow characters, dull and unlikely storyline

Quite good

I didn't enjoy this book as much as another I read by the same author. The author is good and the narrator excellent, but the characters weren't that appealing or interesting. The plot seemed convoluted, and the story dragged at times. It was okay, but not great.

Seriously what did I just listen to

Even ignoring the nonexistent characterisation and unrealistic speech and events, this book just didn't fit together properly. The plot literally doesn't work. This is the worst of all of Lucie Whitehouse's 'books' and that really is saying something.
