About this listen
Former Army Ranger turned government assassin Álvaro Montero and CIA Officer Caiden Cardosa crossed paths two years ago in Vienna, where their encounter ended less than amicably—despite the explosive sexual chemistry between them. Now Caiden is riding a desk at Langley after his cover is blown. And Álvaro—who was “killed”—has a new identity and purpose as Delta/D, an operative for the Locke and Keyes Agency, under the leadership of the mysterious Orion.
When D and Caiden team up in a deadly black ops mission, the urge to kill each other will have to take a back seat to the desire for revenge against the man who betrayed them both. Surviving the mission won’t be easy. Resisting the passion between them—that might be impossible.
©2019 Charlie Cochet (P)2024 Charlie CochetIt's a rollicking yarn with plenty of action, humour and a decent plot, but the romance was pretty insta-lust to insta-love and I did roll my eyes pretty hard when D got down on one knee to propose to Caiden in the middle of the clean up after the final operation to take down the bad guys. I also found the use of "D" as a name was really distracting as I was reading, and although I know that getting the right balance of names and pronouns when writing same-sex characters can be a nightmare, the frequency of the use of both names here sometimes made me feel like I was going cross-eyed!
Greg Boudreaux is as excellent as ever; he has a fantastic range of character voices so that there's never any confusion as to which character is speaking, and he always hits the right emotional beats.
A fun palatte cleanser, although not as good as the Four Kings/Wild Cards books.
Insta-love action romp with fab narration
