Summary
Kestrel and Rory are the very best partnership in Wester Fleet's elite Mountain Rescue Team. They've trusted one another with their lives for five years. They're closer than brothers - but Rory's feelings for his handsome, daredevil partner are far from fraternal. He knows better than to tell Kes the truth. Climbing partnerships are a delicate balance of love and practicality, and the Fleet MRT has a strict nonfraternization code. Rory could lose everything by making a confession. And Kes is an enigma - sometimes distant, sometimes seeming to crave the very devotion Rory longs to give him.
Kes is all set to become the MRT's next leader. He's a shoo-in for the job - except for his impatience with amateur climbers and his inability to hold his tongue. When he and Rory are given the job of guiding two important visitors across the Fleet range, it's a test of his tact, to say the least. But nothing about this mission is as it seems, and soon Kes is facing the most terrifying challenge of his life.

Not my usual 5⭐ for Harper Fox.
This story seemed a little rushed from all of her others ....was it a novella? I feel we were not getting the depth of the characters like in other stories.
The vocal performance was not believable. ?? Did the narrator have an American accent? when not putting on the Scottish accents.

Minor Fox, weird narrator
The ‘Scottish’ accents wandered all over the UK and Ireland, and some inflections (‘dooVAY’ instead of ‘’DOOvay’ for ‘duvet’) were clearly American.
And despite an interesting milieu and the clear research, this is very minor Harper Fox.

Enjoyable story
I really liked the book regardless of the length. I also liked the narrator. Although there was not a heavy Scottish accent, the explanation within the story was that the characters spoke with less of an accent for the benefit of tourists. There were scenes where the accent was stronger. In my opinion, the accent or lack of one did not take away from the story. I was still able to focus on the story and enjoy it for what it was.

Liked the story but the accent ruined it for me
I liked this as a short and sweet standalone story, however setting the book in Scotland and having multiple references to the Scottish accent whilst having the book narrated by an American was very off-putting.
It would have done the book justice to have it read by a Scot, or at least someone who could do a Scottish accent rather than the fake and cringeworthy American we got.

Good
This was a bit of a strange storyline. I don’t know what I was expecting but it wasn’t this. I first thought it was a ghost/spirit lingering around but I’m all kinds of confused. It’s a good book with good characters. A great performance.

Why does Audible insult us with this?
The story was OK. The plot was ridiculous, particularly at the end where the whole activity was deeply unethical. I don't want to give it away but someone should definitely be getting the sack for that.
The characters were clearly Scottish as the author had thrown in the odd Wee and Ay. Not Scottish enough to get the brogue right though.
The problem was the narrator. He had a nice enough voice but his accents were dreadful!!!! His Scottish was some awful mid atlantic Irish and his french was just as bad.
Given Audible is a company dedicated to giving us audiobooks how do they get it so wrong? Or do they assume everyone lives in America and doesn't care? Shame on you Audible for not caring.
The worst of all was the appalling pronunciation of the word Arse. What is all that about?

Dreadful performance
I've loved all of Harper Fox's stories until this one. Wanted to stop listening after just 2 minutes. Worst performance I've heard. Bland, boring, monotone ...and WHY an American accent, when the story is set in the Scottish Hebrides??? PLEASE re-record this with someone better!
