About this listen

Ironworker Wayne Colson and his spirited wife Carmen are witnesses to a shakedown scam — witnesses who must be eliminated. Enter Armand Degas (a.k.a. Blackbird), the brains of the operation, and his partner Richie Nix, an ex-con whose highest goal is to rob a bank in every state. After the Colsons enter the Federal Witness Security Program, a lively chase ensues — with two bumbling but determined killers on Wayne and Carmen's trail.

With its dead-on dialogue, memorable characters, and absolute authenticity, Killshot is one of Elmore Leonard's all-time great novels.

Talk about unbearable tension. I kept getting so worked up by the story that I just wanted to skip to the end to escape. No one can build the pressure like Elmore can. I'm going to order another one of his soon but not right away. I'll need time for the panicky feeing to wear off.

Heart attack stuff

Why do all the women in this story have wining voices, even the main, tough, female character? It ruins the whole story, which is great in itself.

Great story, weird narration

Great characters as ever, he says so much about modern America without ever directly addressing it

Great characters

People forget how great Elmore Leonard is… to my mind he is the single greatest writer of dialogue amongst working class characters. In killshot, which I read at least 20 years ago, his portrayal of love a d marriage is touching in what is a straight noir thriller. He has the most economical way of describing and summarising characters. A real modern master of noir and deserving of mention alongside James Lee Burke and James Elroy

The forgotten master

All the wonderful characterisation you expect from Elmore Leonard with a basic and easy to follow plot that drives the story on.

The characterisations are just superb. Very good narration too. If you like crime novels that really get into the characters, this is for you.

Classic Leonard, superbly written characters.

Great book. Elmore Leonard really had a way with crime thrillers. There will never be another like him.

good story, performance better, plot a bit linear but classic Elmore Leonard I would recommend

good

The master of criminal dialogue isn’t very good at the non criminal dialogue spoken by the husband and wife. Likewise their relationship seems wooden and contrived. By far the least satisfying Elmore Leonard I’ve chanced accross.

Not good writing
