About this listen

From the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Rina Kent comes a scorching standalone professor/student dark MM romance set in the Legacy of Gods' world.

My darkness meets a darker soul.

I’m a golden boy.

A genius law student, the heir to the Carson empire, and the dutiful son.

Or, at least, that's what it looks like from the outside.

Deep inside, I have the urge to set the world on fire.

I keep these impulses in check, rarely indulging in mayhem.

Until one night of debauchery backfires, and I'm caught by a villain.

I bury the entire ordeal with the rest of my skeletons.

That is, until that night walks into my classroom in the form of my new professor.

Kayden Lockwood.

A criminal who’s teaching criminal law.

I can't expose what he's done without unmasking my secret life.

What I can do, however, is force him to taste the poison he gave me.

In the clash of titans, Kayden and I break and crumble.

And I'm starting to realize this dangerous game may have no winners.

This is a dark romance with themes that may not be for everyone. Please visit the author's website for content warnings before listening.

kiss the villain 🔪👄
3.75 ⭐️
firstly, I’d like to say I loved Gareth’s character. I’ve loved him from the snippets we got in other books and for him to get his own book was a godsend. It was nice to finally see his own character, how he is and acts without it being from someone else’s POV. His character was very misunderstood and I liked how he slowly unraveled.
this book is MM and both characters are CRAZY🫣 possibly psychopaths at a push. It was a typical Rina book with 🌶️ scenes and even crazier characters with a lot of 🔪. As usual, make sure to read the trigger warnings before reading this as it does touch on darker subjects and topics. I enjoyed the last 40% of the book a lot more than the beginning and my heart broke for Gareth.
I do however, have a gripe. Kayden felt very 2D. Throughout the whole book he was telling us how crazy and psychotic he is but he was just average? It was all talk and no show 🫠 “he was the craziest” show me. He felt very cardboard and unoriginal and I do wish there was more build up because we have our first 🌶️ scene within 5% of the book and then they were obsessed with eachother. The plot finally got going after around 60% which is quite a long time to get the story but I still enjoyed listening to it. Especially with the full cast as it brought the story to life even more. The narrators were amazing and I loved it.
I do love a Rina book but personally this one wasn’t my fave and didn’t live up to the writing for MM dark romance compared to god of fury (which was amazing). I am excited for all the Easter eggs plotted throughout this book to let us know the next book and what it entails so you know I’ve already preordered it😂🫣
a massive thank you to Rina & her team for sending me an early listeners copy in return for an honest review.

I loved it. Kayden voice is like a dream!!! Soo much mystery in this book Rina Kent nailed it as always with her every book. I’m still in shock about one person don’t want to spoil for others. Go ahead and listen to this audiobook you will not regret.

This story took me on a roller coaster of emotions. At first I was a bit nervous to start it because I had this image in my head of who Gareth and Kayden were, and didn’t want to disrupt it. And due to so many mixed reviews on TikTok I was a little afraid that I wouldn’t like what I read/heard, but I gave it a go anyway:) In the beginning I found Gareth’s personality a bit off putting, and I wasn’t so sure about it, but I grew to like it. I have seen many people calling him whiny and annoying. And that Rina made him to be a “cheap copy” of previous characters, but I disagree on that front. I found him refreshing in a way, while many of Rinas other characters were openly manipulative and caused mayhem, Gareth did it from the shadows. And I liked the aspect that we as readers got to see inside his head, while most of the characters in the book had no clue what was really going in his mind. I have also read that people found it too dark, but I didn’t mind. You literally read dark romance, so the characters aren’t going to be golden retrievers. I was a bit surprised how little we got to see the student and professor aspect of the story though, like the lead up to the book made it out to be this big thing. But honestly we got very little of it, it kinda was just an afterthought. But well yeah enough of my rant, I would definitely recommend everyone to read the book, and form their own opinion on it. And I absolutely would recommend listening to it, it was spectacular when it comes to the narration! Can’t wait for Vaugh and Julien next year!

Absolutely brilliant narration!

"Villain and Monster. Two fractured souls that fit perfectly"

The full cast narrating this audiobook did a phenomenal job bringing this to life. All the cameos from the couples in the past books were extra special as they each got their own voice. It made me so nostalgic, and it just made the experience of reading this even better! Also, Kayden's voice in my ear was indeed an experience 🔥🔥🔥

Honestly, at this point, reading Rina's books feels comforting, which is weird to admit given their content... I couldn't wait for Gareth's story to release, and overall, it didn't disappoint. Gareth himself was so different from how I thought he would be. I was expecting calm, cool, and collected, and instead, we got unhinged, obsessive, and psychopathic. Kayden Davenport, though, was the biggest surprise... I was not expecting to love him as much as I did. These two just fit perfectly, and I loved their story. It was unhinged and HOT, but also emotional and deep.

This would have been a 5 star, except certain parts were too similar to Niko and Bran's story for me to overlook. Also, Gareth, as much as I wanted to obsess over him, was really whiny at times and just felt juvenile, which I hate to say. Hence, the 4 star rating.

Regardless, I still really enjoyed it, and as I previously mentioned, seeing cameos of the couples from the past books just made me so nostalgic 🥹

ALSO, the little set up for the Vipers series Rina is releasing has me intrigued 👀 Very excited for those!!!

10/10 narration!

This book is everything and more, especially if you loved legacy of god series. Performances are out of this world, and I think Gareth is my new favourite 😍 I totally understand that he wants to stab people if they mildly inconvenience him. 🤷🏼‍♀️ The banter, the spice, and adorable relationship dynamics, it has everything. 🔥

Cute but psychotic, loved it.

Narration was great. Best way to experience the book. I loved how possessive both of these men were for each other. Rina needs to stay in the MM world. It is divine.

A perfect match made in hell
