a wonderfully moving & detailed account written by Sue of her mother’s life in Australia & New Zealand in the early 1960s. The story is told using Elizabeth’s own letters home to her parents at the time, & from her diary recollections. Elizabeth, Sue’s mother, was a very courageous young woman. She travelled to Australia as what was called ‘a £10 Pom’. She had to stay for a minimum of 2 years & surrender her passport. She decided to make the most of every opportunity that arose, & stayed almost three years. There’s some great photographs. Elizabeth worked to support herself. Both the sea voyages are told, & the trip through the Panama Canal is particularly interesting. It’s a fantastic record of that time in Elizabeth’s life; all the people she met & the places she visited. Thoroughly enjoyable!
