Summary

The instant #1 international bestseller, Leadership Strategy and Tactics: Field Manual by Jocko Willink is the essential and practical guide to leadership and how to excel at it, from the former US Navy SEAL and co-author of the number one New York Times bestseller Extreme Ownership.

Leadership is the most challenging of human endeavours. It is often misunderstood. It can bewilder, mystify and frustrate even the most dedicated practitioners. Leaders at all levels are often forced to use theoretical guesswork to make decisions and lead their troops.

It doesn’t have to be that way.

There are principles that can be applied and tenets that can be followed. There are skills that can be learned and manoeuvres that can be practised and executed. There are leadership strategies and tactics that have been tested and proven on the battlefield, in business and in life.

Retired Navy SEAL Officer Jocko Willink delivers his powerful and pragmatic leadership methodology that teaches how to lead any team in any situation to victory. Here, you will learn how to:

*Deal with egos and the problems they cause
*Earn and build trust with both your subordinates and superiors
*Instil pride in your team, without creating arrogance
*Overcome challenges presented by a micromanaging, indecisive or weak boss
*Create a disciplined team that regulates itself
*Use leadership as a tool to teach, mentor, train and correct behaviour of team members
*Operate at a maximum level of efficiency – and reap the rewards

. . . and more. This book is step one towards becoming the commander of your own life. The rest is up to you.

Critic reviews

Until this point in my life, I’ve never read a book that reveals the truths of leadership in such detail and rawness. The true value of this book cannot be quantified in words (Pete Roberts, co-founder and CEO of Origin Maine USA, on The Dichotomy of Leadership)
The Dichotomy of Leadership needs to come with a warning label: BRUTALLY HONEST. Finally, a book that tells the truth on how hard and complex it can be to tackle leadership challenges (Lindi Horton, Director of Cloud Services, Cyber Security Company)
Inspiring, practical and honest lessons that transcend the battlefield. Buy this book, read it and apply the lessons to any challenge (Sarah Armstrong, CFO of Mesa Technical Associates, on The Dichotomy of Leadership)
The Dichotomy of Leadership provides even more depth and dimension to the principles of Extreme Ownership (Sonja Winkler, Senior Director of Operations, Nashville Symphony)

Great book, lots learned.

Although this book repeated its values multiple times, I feel that it was nessacary in order to convey the message it was trying to deliver. Great book, when listening, I kept thinking about old bosses I've had who could have really benefited form this book.

Seal team strategies for employees

Seal team strategies for employees. too much emphasis on "missions" though and would prefer business terms if it's a business book

Good To GO!

Anyone who listens to the podcast or who has bought any of Jocko's books will know what to expect. For everyone else, welcome! Great content that is easy to apply. A lot of leadership books waffle and refer to this study or that study, not this book. Lessons that have been tried and tested which are presented so anyone can understand. Like one of JW's lessons states "makes sure they understand what they are doing and why they are doing it" that's what this book will give you in regards to leadership in all parts of life.

Great, but

The parts about leaders are great, however a large number of parts about being subordinate are a litte bit disconnected from the reality. I would like to hear something about what many bosses do: BOILING FROG. Perhaps in thexnext book.
As always great reading performance by the author himself.

A must for any leader.

The experiences, reflections and guidelines within this book, quite brilliantly narrated, offer strong points for any leader - or aspiring leader - to strengthen their skill. It also, in my opinion, offers advice on how to be a better colleague, and indeed a better person altogether.
I've put this book's teachings to use as a person, a civilian manager and a military leader, and can certainly attest to the effects.
My warmest and sincerest recommendations.
