About this listen

It's the beginning of a new school year at Normalton University, and Dani Sloan has purchased a table for the big orientation extravaganza on the quad, determined to recruit the incoming freshmen as customers for her innovative packed-lunch business. Her food samples are a hit, but the good always seems to come with a dose of bad, and just a few days later, a man is murdered during the annual college-sponsored zombie crawl.

Once again, Dani finds herself caught up in something much more sinister than she had ever imagined when she opened her ambitious chef-to-go business - and the only way to ensure her own safety is to catch the culprit - fast.

Another tasty mystery that I enjoyed. With so many cozy mysteries with a culinary theme out there, it sometimes gets hard to distinguish between them but this author has managed it, with two reason. First it's set in a college town so her helpers are teenagers and most of her clientele are too, along with there drama and busy lives and second with three businesses Dani is not stuck in one place like a bakery, giving her plenty of opportunity to investigate. Both of these facts really work well for the series. It's then backed up with great and interesting characters and even a love triangle in this book. The mystery was good and I like how you were given different clues throughout the book that don't always seem connected to the case, so that if you were paying attention you shouldn't have been surprised by the killer or the motive, not to say I picked up on everyone but I did enjoy trying. With all the talk of zombies and monsters don't let that put you off the story, thinking it is a sci-fi story because it's not, it is definitely a cosy mystery and a college town and costumes explains it all.
After the last case Dani's love Life has taken a nose dive, the uncle of her tenant, as head of the university security and the man who she thought was interested in her has been too busy, chasing monsters in the canal, to see her and with the start of term Dani herself hopes to be to busy catering parties. Her tenants and staff for Chief to go prove to be less than reliable, Ivy is busy giving out food to the homeless, Tippy is always late and Star is shaken up by a car jacking. When Spencer learns his niece is visiting the homeless camp giving out food and a student is frightened my the monster near the camp, he and Dani decide to visit it for themselves. Only to find her contact has been murdered. With the homeless unable or unwilling to talk to the police Dani and her friends finds themselves once again investigating a murder. With zombies car jacking innocent students and terrorising the camp and monsters roaming the water ways Dani feels there is a connection, if only she can find it.
I liked the narrator. She can maker her voice sound weary and tired for a busy Dani and the next minute a bright and bubble college teen is talking. All the voices sound just right for the characters.

Another tasty mystery

I think I preferred this book to it's predecessor but, I appreciate that the first book laid the foundations for this one very nicely.
These books combine good mysteries with quirky romance and mouth watering food references....I almost noted down a recipe for one dish....I think I may listen to it again and bookmark the recipe in fact! 😅👩🏽‍🍳

Sometimes I need something fun and light to listen to and these ' Chef To Go ' books are perfect for this.

Well narrated and an entertaining story! Ism off to download the next book! I hope there is a next book already 😬🙄🙏🏽

Fun, romantic, mystery!

Second in the series and not bad for a on the go listen whilst doing the housework but this writer explains every little thing meaning the reader does not need any knowledge and the style of writing does not lend itself to fluency in story telling. Still, well read and takes no effort to take in.

Pleasent easy listen but predictable.

I love this book and it's predecessor. They are both very very digestible stories. Highly enjoyable.

easily digested story

A very easy listen, nothing hard to think about, just takes you along for the ride. One thing I did wonder toward the end was when Dani’s cell phone rang and she was supposed to be on an open call? This is just me being very pernickity but it’s the kind of thing that sticks in my head……already saving my credit for the next book.

A good follow on from book one

2nd book in the series and better than the first. Nice, gentle narration, easy to listen to. Appropriately paced. An unusual story line that was well focused with no unnecessary asides. It was rather spoilt towards the end with an all too familiar scene. Too much detail about food. It was an enjoyable story that kept me interested throughout. The main character is likeable.

Interesting plot

I enjoyed the story , very thought provoking about those who are less fortunate than others

Great plot line

Second in the series and maintains it's easy listening style. I thought this one was a bit more obvious than the first but still had me listening to the end. The only reason I gave it 4 stars rather than 5 is that the love story is a bit clichéd and frustrating - why would a supposedly independent, entrepreneurial woman be mooning over a guy who ghosted her for months and a times treats her like a 50's housewife?

Easy going crime fiction

I binged this story in two days! I really like the chemistry between the characters and the story was interesting. I guessed about halfway through what the situation was on one part of the story the other surprised me. Melissa Moran is wonderful as the narrator I really like her voice. I hope these stories continue. On to the next book!

Another solid mystery from Denise Swanson
