Summary

While the Israelites struggle to occupy the Promised Land of God, Mahlah bat Zelophehad is orphaned and left to care for her four sisters. But daughters of the dead are unable to inherit land, and it will take a miracle for Mahlah to obtain the means to care for her sisters and uphold the vow she made to her dying mother.

Mahlah must seek Moses, the leader of her people, and request something extraordinary - the right for a daughter to inherit her deceased father's land. A right that will upset the ox-cart of male inheritance and thrust her into the role of a rebel.

But, God is the protector of the orphan and the widow, and five orphaned daughters need his help. With God, anything is possible. Even changing man's tradition.

A truly wonderful book!

This is the first book I have listened to of Ms. Britton's or heard a reading by Anne Eliza. I'm not sure I have heard of the main character before or if she is a product of the authors imagination but I truly enjoyed learning about her. Although she may not be real, the story is, it is of the time of the Israelites crossing through the wilderness to the promised land. I found the story to be very beautiful as Mahlah learns to trust God in every way imaginable. As a young woman of seventeen she has promised her mother, as she lie in her death bed, that she would take care of her five sisters. I loved how these women put their trust in God as they battled through all the challenges before them. You will totally love this story that ends beautifully. I hope to listen or read more of this author's books.
