About this listen
London Tales is a collection of short stories from Tim Walker that offer dramatic pinpricks in the rich tapestry of London's timeline, a city with two thousand years of history. The stories offer glimpses of imagined lives and dramatic moments, starting with a tribal perspective on the Roman invasion followed by the terror of Boudica's destruction of the fledgling city. Historical dramas then follow, set during the Peasants Revolt, the Great Fire of London, and the Regency. Then there's an unusual take on the Jack the Ripper murders in Victorian London, and a tense romance set during the Blitz of World War Two.
The Sixties, Seventies and Millennium are evoked in the story of fictitious policeman, Brian Smith, and an elderly couple get caught up in the July 2005 terrorist bombings. Two friends meet for a pub crawl, based on the author's experience of participating in a London Literary Pub Crawl in 2017, and a convict tricks the authorities into an early release from prison, based on true events. The final story is a darkly comic drama set during the final years of a future London about to be swamped by rising sea levels.
London Tales will delight, entertain and educate listeners who have a connection to one of the Worlds most famous and loved cities.
London Tales is a sister audiobook to 2023's Thames Valley Tales. Both audiobooks were produced and narrated by British actor-author Richard James and available from Audible and i-Tunes.
