In this paradise you won't like what you see . . .
When Nina's father dies, she inherits a gleaming dream vacation home in a balmy tropical paradise - one she had no idea existed. The house is extraordinary: state-of-the-art, all glass and marble. How did her sensible father ever have enough money for this? And why not tell her about it? Desperate to uncover why he hid such a big secret, she decides to visit.
Maria, once an ambitious medical student, is now a nanny for the super-rich. The money's better, and so are the destinations - like this new assignment in the British Virgin Islands. But when her wards never show, Maria begins to make herself at home, spending her days luxuriating by the pool. There's just one rule: Don't go in the basement. But her curiosity might just get the better of her. And soon, she'll wish her only worry was not getting paid.
As both women's timelines intertwine, dark secrets start to unravel and one thing quickly becomes clear - nothing could have prepared them for what they are about to encounter.

Great start, middling middle, poor end
Such an uneven writer. Some of her books are slick & incredibly well plotted with shades of Highsmith. Others, like this, flounder very quickly. Undoubtedly a great writer when she has the story, but this just doesn’t cut it.

Catherine Does It Again!
I absolutely love Catherine Steadmans books and this did not disappoint! Narration excellent as usual, and the storyline was brilliant - I really enjoyed the concept and it was nice to have something a bit different from your typical mystery/thriller setting. Couldn’t put it down! It was paced really well so you jump right into the story quickly and the characters were easy to remember and follow. Really enjoyed it!

A riveting listen from start to finish
Twists and turns along the way keeping the listener on tender hooks with an appetite to hear what’s next. Well written and described helping the listener to visualise the settings. Would be good for the storyline to continue to an another book !!

This should have just been a movie scenario
The characters were not explored at all. The motivations for their actions were not really addressed. There was action, lots of it !I would have liked to hear about what drove the people to act as they did! It should have been a film rather than a book! Overall not my cup of tea at all, in contrast to the other books of Cathrine Steadman.

I only usually listen whilst working but
I listened to this audiobook from start to finish, it was so riveting. Particularly good narration and of course all of this author’s work is up there with the best of them, actually I think she is probably right at the top!

Awesome
As mum to a toddler that loves to read but hasn’t got the time, I can’t be grateful enough to the narrator, the story is brilliant and the narrator is just as brilliant . Just awesome.

Terrific!
A pacy and original thriller. This kept me gripped and guessing to the end. Extremely satisfying and brilliantly narrated by the author. The most engrossing and clever book in this genre that I’ve read for ages.
