About this listen

Three children walked away from the cottages on the edge of the town towards Berwick Waters. Later that day only two of them came back...

Alice Tully knows exactly what happened that spring day six years ago, though it's still hard for her to believe it's real. The images, the sounds, and the aftermath are imprinted on her memory. She'll never be able to forget, even though she's trying to lead a normal life. She's making a go of things, putting her past behind her at last. But Alice's past is dangerous, and violent, and sad. And it's about to rip her new life apart.

A gripping and emotionally searing novel from an accomplished author. Anne Cassidy has tackled a terrifying subject with subtlety and imagination: Looking for JJ will not let you go.

Editor reviews

Vivid writing, humane characters, and sensitive narration make this award-winning young adult novel a gripping listen. The story is unforgettably dark: A 10-year-old girl murders her best friend, and after serving five and a half years in prison, she struggles to keep the secret from those in her new life. Only her probation officer and a reporter know the truth. Haunting yet compassionate, the novel grapples with big themes: secrecy, trust, the capacity of children for violence, and the possibility of forgiveness. An unforgettable listen for older kids and adults looking for a dark but thought-provoking tale.

Nice story, well written with excellent narration.
Well worth my credit! Looking forward to listening to the sequel.

Great read.

This sounded like a great story, but the dialogue was very stilted, and the narrator was completely wrong for the tale. I listened to a few chapters and then decided to return it.

Unfortunately I can't review the content of the story as I found the narrator unbearable. I tried lowering the speed but it still didn't flow. No wonder the audiobook is short with the way she's reading.
