About this listen

The unabridged downloadable audiobook edition of Clive Cussler and Grant Blackwood's Lost Empire, the second installment of the fantastic Fargo adventure stories. Read by the award-winning narrator Scott Brick.

While scuba diving in Tanzania, Sam and Remi Fargo come upon a relic belonging to a long-lost Confederate ship. An anomaly about the relic sets them off chasing a mystery - but, unknown to them, a much more powerful force is engaged in the same chase. Mexico's ruling party, the ultranationalist Mexica Tenochca, is intent on finding that artefact as well, because it contains a secret that could destroy the party utterly. Through Tanzania and Zanzibar, into the rainforests of Madagascar, and across the Indian Ocean to Indonesia and the legendary site of the 1883 Krakatoa explosion, the Fargos and their ruthless opponents pursue the hunt - but only one can win. And the penalty for failure is death.

I'm really starting to like the Fargos!

Would you listen to Lost Empire again? Why?

As much as I enjoyed the book, I probably wouldn't listen to it again.
That said, I do thoroughly recommend this title, as it's another very good tale, following the Fargos as they globe trot in search of lost treasure.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Lost Empire?

I particularly liked the trek through the Madagascar rain forest.

Which character – as performed by Scott Brick – was your favourite?

There were some very good portrayals. Both Fargos were very good. Rivera was impressive too.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Most definitely

Complex plot, lacking flow

For me listening while walking and doing chores this was not an ideal book choice. The plot was complex and forced with a lot of detail, even with Scott Bricks near perfect narration I kept missing vital plot points and having to "rewind". Personally I also felt the story didn't flow as well as the first in the series, parts seemed there as padding between some of the set prices. Enjoyable enough but not Cusslers best

Average

It was ok. Maybe went on a bit too long. Made me feel like writing a book like this but where a strong capable female is the lead and not simply a follower of a male.

This narrator is tolerable at best.

great story

A great story to immerse yourself into. Usual high standard Clive cussler story telling in which you can lose yourself.

Great treasure hunter story.

Slow start but I really got into the story how it's so close to real history and legend etc.

Needlessly padded out again

I really want to like this series so gave the second book a try after listening to the first. Sadly, it’s much of the same - huge amounts of highly unnecessary, over complicated and irrelevant detail which just seems to be there to pad out the book. Cussler again writing himself in as a “mysterious” character who saves the day is tragic - like something a kid writes in a school essay. Shame because the concept and lead characters are great. That’s the end of my Fargo journey sadly.
