About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
The Number One Sunday Times bestseller
How do you learn to live again when you've danced with death?
Louise was like any other excited mother-to-be during her first pregnancy, but no one could have predicted what happened when she gave birth. During an emergency c-section, she had severe complications and fought for her life over a number of days, whilst her son was taken into NICU. This terrifying experience impacted on Louise's mental health in a way that completely changed her life, as she has battled to come to terms with what happened to her, whilst also becoming a mother.
As Louise has rebuilt herself step by step, she has reflected back on her life – from her childhood and close relationship with her brother, Sam Thompson, to her struggles with alcohol and toxic relationships, as well as the rollercoaster years of her time on Made in Chelsea.
Louise’s experience has changed the way she sees the world and redefined what's important to her. Although it has not been an easy road, she is determined to come out more alive than ever. Louise’s powerful story, told with raw honesty, shows the incredible human ability to overcome anything, no matter what life throws at you.
'Her battle, viscerally told in this harrowing account, is one to be in awe of and might have you reconsidering your own appreciation of luck' Mail on Sunday

So honest and listened to over one day
Louise you are one honest beautiful lady! Thank you for telling your story. If you read this please ask your drs about Ehler Danlos Syndrome I have EDS and listening to your physical and mental anguish it was like hearing my own voice. EDS affects connective tissue and child birth and investigations and operations are more risky due to defective connective tissue it’s a very complex condition but you also have mental health issues some people have ADHD or OCD and tics. Histamine issues and pots is also common. Adhesions and delicate blood vessels. Please rule this condition out. Much love xx

Incredibly honest & inspirational
I decided to download and listen to Lucky - Learning to alive again for in the car as I do a lot of driving for my job and found it to be very thought provoking. It is a very honest, raw and eye opening account of her experience and something all healthcare professional should read or listen to as sometimes we get so involved in the work that we forget the actual person who is receiving the treatment. There are going to people who have experienced even worse than Louise’s experience and some that have not come out the other side. However, Louise has written this book beautifully and eloquently and is using her platform to raise awareness of the problems in the healthcare system. Yes, many women don’t get to experience their birth plan and it has become more common but things need to be learnt from these bad experiences like this and make changes need to happen to prevent it happening to others!
