About this listen

Where does Magic Bitter, Magic Sweet rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

A fairy tale for grown-ups. Magical tale which was unusual and refreshing. It led me to read some of Charlie's other books but this remains my favourite

So very very clever, I was hooked from the start. I cannot really say much more other than - this is one of the most creative storylines I've come across in a very long time

First half super slow, i kept debating whether to just give up and stop listening, the first half really frustrating listening to as it seems like there's information withheld just for the sake of the story. The second half had me gripped and was a 5 or 6 star book. It nearly had me in tears for many parts and I found it super clever and endearing.

I have enjoyed every book I have read by this author but I have to say !WOW! this book is so different with so many unexpected twists and turns and (two) fantastic endings! I totally loved it!! I can’t praise Charlie N. Holmberg enough on this book and the narration was brilliant too!!

Didn't really know what I was getting into here. But followed the story to the end. I won't read any more books by this author but it was a adventure into fantasy fiction.

Long winded and confusing. Not a patch on the other two series written by the same author which I hugely enjoyed.


Not as good as the magician series by some way

One of my absolute favourite authors! Her writing is fantastic and always pulls the reader into the story and she fleshes out her characters with imaginative and colourful back stories. The narration of this book is quite literally painful to listen to. I have no idea how it got past the editors. All Holmburg’s other audiobooks have well practiced and lively narration. This one however let’s the entire series down. I am honestly baffled at how bad it is. I have watched videos of Kate Rudd recording audio for other books and she read far more expressively and fluently than she does here.

the woman performing this sounds like a robot. couldn't listen for longer than 5 minutes, I love this author and I'm really upset that I can't rate this high because I don't even know what the story was!
