About this listen

Lottie Carlyle faces a bittersweet romantic dilemma in Jill Mansell's engaging best seller, Making Your Mind Up - not to be missed by fans of Lucy Diamond and Milly Johnson.

Lottie Carlyle isn't looking for love when she meets her new boss, Tyler Klein. Living in a beautiful cottage with her two adorable - sometimes - kids in an idyllic village in the Cotswolds, on good terms with her ex-husband and with friends all around, she's happy enough with her lot. But Tyler's perfect for Lottie, and quickly she falls for him - and he for her.

Unfortunately, there's a problem. For reasons that are totally unfair, Lottie's children hate Tyler. When a rival for Lottie's affections comes on the scene in the shape of charmer Seb, the children adore him, and he's certainly a distraction. But he's not Tyler - and he's not even at all what he seems.

Lottie's got a problem - but thanks, in classic Jill Mansell style, to a tobogganing accident and a delicious series of mix-ups, all will be revealed, and true love will find a way.

A lovely heartwarming story brought to life by a wonderful narrator. Great little escape from normality.

Disappointed

Narrator needs a medal. That was an excruciating read. I skipped the last 6 hours. I've read a few of her books and thoroughly enjoyed them but not this.

Annoying Narrator

What did you like best about Making Your Mind Up? What did you like least?

I found the story to be quite light hearted and typical chick-lit, but I have read a few of Jill Mansell's books and have enjoyed them.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I didn't have a favourite character.

What didn’t you like about Julia Franklin’s performance?

When doing the voices of the male characters, particularly, Tyler Klein, she put on an annoying creaky, throaty voice as though she was trying to do a very bad Clint Eastwood impression. For Klein, the character's dialogue and voice just didn't work together. The other male characters weren't much better. Tom's Geordie accent was unconvincing, and the other characters sounded pompous and bad tempered all the time. A terrible performance. Too overdone! I've avoided the other audiobooks with her narration because I was so put off.

Could you see Making Your Mind Up being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?

Yes. I'm not a fan of 'film stars' though, so couldn't care less who played the characters - as long as they were convincing.

Dull, predictable and not believable

This might not have been too bad as some trashy chick lit to read but really wasn't worth listening to, an overly long meandering story with not particularly likeable, superficial characters and 2 completely unrelated plots - both of which were pretty silly - running concurrently. I also found the narrators attempt at children's voices really grating. I don't normally review, but I really did feel this audiobook was a huge waste of time and money.
