Summary

THE #2 WATERSTONES BESTSELLER

’Beautifully explored and deeply complex’ Gal Gadot

Joyful, devastating, and profound, Meet Me in Another Life is a story of love and connection in every possible form that will captivate fans of Stuart Turton, Claire North, and Audrey Niffenegger.

Thora and Santi have met before…

Under the clocktower in central Cologne, with nothing but the stars above and their futures ahead.

They will meet again…

They don’t know it yet, but they’ll meet again: in numerous lives they will become friends, colleagues, lovers, enemies – meeting over and over for the first time, every time; each coming to know every version of the other.

Only they can make sure it’s not for the last time.

But as they’re endlessly drawn together and the lines between their different lives begin to blur, they are faced with one question: why?

They must discover the truth of their strange attachment before this, and all their lives, are lost forever.

Fantastic and mystifying

I absolutely loved this, at various times throughout I thought I'd worked it out and was still surprised by the ending.

Old school sci-fi

The start of the book reminds me of Kate Atkinson’s Life after Life. Where life is rerun after death and the protagonists get to try again. However in that book it is not explained what is happening but here, using a well worn sci-fi plot device, there is a satisfying explanation. The book feels old fashioned, even the twist at the end is feels like something ripped from the golden age of sci-fi. However that is not a bad thing and I really enjoyed this book.

Narration was good.

Explores philosophical concepts

Toys with opposing energy and outlooks, fear vs optimism, freedom vs determination. It questions whether our beliefs and actions matter and the extent of how different we could be if raised in different circumstances. All within a world where the rules are to be discovered.

something different

Not sure what I was expecting but this was not it, it was however a pleasant surprise. Finished over a weekend I found myself not only listening when doing some tidying but thinking about the characters while not listening.

Twisty sci-fi romance?

if you like sci-fi, romance, mystery, and friendship which goes above and beyond the stars, then this book is a must-read. Artfully brought to life by the narrator, you are fully immersed in the bizarre and beautiful world of the book from start to finish. Don't hesitate to check it out.

Just Wow!

This is the first book I've been throughly hooked on in a long time. I just couldn't stop listening and needed to know what happened next. The at was beautifully written and told and I felt as though I really knew the characters. The way they grew through this multiple lives was a privilege to witness. I love how the story unfolded and continued to surprise me throughout.

Gripping mystery

A truly original mystery that merges philosophy with sci-fi. It takes a little bit to get going, but stick with it through those first few chapters, because once the characters start uncovering what's really going on it's gripping. Touching, relatable, and thought-provoking.

Repetitive argument for 11 hrs

I am not sure what this book supposed to be about. Two people with different points of view on life keep meeting each other in different lives without recollection of their previous encounters. Until about half way through the book they suddenly know they know each other from previous lives and trying to resolve their past arguments.
The book is about Thora - sceptical, argumentative and constantly in opposition to Santi - an idealist, dreamer and believer in God.
They meet each other every episode in different roles - friends, then husband and wife, father and daughter, teacher and student, supervisor and internship...
These two characters are meeting in different times, universes, parallel worlds .. who knows, it’s never explained but it is not really important for the book to make sense I guess.
But I don’t know what then. They’re having arguments for 11 hours. Well, I am not sure if for the duration of the whole book as I stopped listening half way through. They constantly argue and it’s tiring to listen obnoxious and annoying Thora having a problem with every single word or opinion of Santi.
The book pretends to have some theological and even philosophical discussions but there’s no progress after 5 hours and I am not interested enough to find out how it ends.
The only positive thing about the book is the narration. It was actually the narrator because of whom I kept listening to this unspecified genre for two more hours after I found no interest in lives of these two what so ever.
