About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Dying isn't any fun...but at least it's a living.

Mickey7 is an Expendable: a disposable employee on a human expedition sent to colonise the ice world Niflheim. Whenever there's a mission that's too dangerous - even suicidal - the crew turns to Mickey. After one iteration dies, a new body is regenerated with most of his memories intact.

Mickey signed on to escape from both bad debts and boredom on Midgard.

After six deaths, Mickey7 understands the terms of his deal...and why it was the only colonial position unfilled when he took it.

When he goes missing and is presumed dead at the hands of deadly indigenous creatures, Mickey8 reports for duty and their troubles really begin.

Great voice acting and compelling story

Well worth the listen, just different and refreshing. I struggling to find compellingly written stories but this one hits all the targets for me, I’d fully recommend it to anyone interested in the science fiction genre

Sci fi for beginners

Often I've given up on sci-fi because the books I've read have been overly complex and difficult to grasp. So when I heard about this, I was intrigued and when a twist of gate brought me into another bookstore, I decided to give it a go. And I do not regret - it's funny and easy-going while also adding some serious thought-experiments to the mix. Now and the it slowed down and got lost on its own premise, but the audiobook really heightened the experience.

Didn't land the finish.

Ending was a little bit flat but everything leading up to it was really interesting.

Awful & Awesome

This book hits mediocre rating not because of its mediocrity but because it bothe succeeds and fails at the same time.

Awful - poor character development, rushed storylines and some odd decisions by the author really dragged down what could've been a superb read.

Awesome - wonderfully thought out history of humans in the far reaching future, superb performance and superb inclusion of a range of future science applications overides the awful elements to make it a worthy read.

All in all it certainly deserves a 3 star rating, not 2 or even a theoretical 2.5, because it is entertaining. If the story was extended a bit and the characters more thought out (seriously, the major from this book was comically ridiculous) then it could've easily been a 4 star. I have to give a nod to the author though as his ideas are fantastic.

Darkly comic and ingenuitive

the narration and character development makes this definitely a series to follow.

I am looking forward to more by the author.

Great ideas and imagination

I really novel idea which is full of creativity and allows the reader to build their imagination around this concept of having more than one person as a duplicate. The narration was good and kept me engaged.

The Multiple Man Can

I loved this story and it didn't even matter that I hadn't listen to Mickey 1 through 6.

Great concept

Lack of character development. The overall story concept is a great update on clone technology. This could have been a great sci fi story, it's still very good.
