This is the story of Barbara and Larry Savage's sometimes dangerous, often zany, but ultimately rewarding 23,000-mile global bicycle odyssey, which took them through 25 countries in two years. Miles from Nowhere is an adventure not to be missed!

Along the way, these near-neophyte cyclists encountered warmhearted strangers eager to share food and shelter, bicycle-hating drivers who shoved them off the road, various wild animals (including a roof ape and an attack camel), sacred cows, rock-throwing Egyptians, overprotective Thai policeman, motherly New Zealanders, meteorological disasters, bodily indignities, and great personal joys. The stress of traveling together constantly for two years tested and ultimately strengthened the young couple's relationship.

As their trip ends, you'll find yourself yearning for Barbara and Larry to mount back up and keep pedaling. It's a story that makes you feel like you've grown right along with the author.

It took me back to some of the places I also travelled in the 1980’s and the encounters and illnesses along the way. The book is so well compiled one can imagine the scene described by Barbara very well.

I loved every part of the story. It helped me to appreciate my relationship!!! I highly recommend listening to it , the fact it was written so long ago does not affect negatively in least extend the great value of the book.

A wonderful adventure that has stood the test of time. My only criticism is the accents the reader puts on.

I like the pace of the story, and I genuinely felt like I was learning about what cycling was like for the couple, picking up hints and tips along the way as if I were going to travel the same path, however, this was written pre internet so a long time ago. The American niaivity and entitlement at times was infuriating, but as the story progresses it got better. All credit to the cyclors (cyclists in the UK) in the story, as it was an amazing feat.

The narrator was pleasant to listen to, however some of the accents of the characters was truly cringe worthy. Read at a good cadence and overall a good story. Just a few minor irritations.

writen well and set in what could be classed as the golden era of world travel and cycling touring.

everyone should take the time to relive Barbara Savage trip and be apart of her journey she certainly tells it like you are there with her.

Travelling to distant lands on the back of a bike and writing about it is fairly common these days. But this was one of the first, which makes Barbara Savage a pioneer. You cannot help but admire the bravery, honesty and sheer joy as she shares every pedalstroke along the way. Most of all, it is a book about humanity and the state of things wolrdwide at the grass-roots level. People were Barbara's thing and the book leaves you with the notion that as a species, we have far more in common that that which separates us. The saddest thing is that Barbara passed away not long after her adventures. The world is a poorer place for her passing, but richer for her journey through it. Now it's your turn to share in it.
