Editor reviews

Christine Williams brings a winsome delivery and spry pace to Edward Swift’s Miss Spellbinder's Point of View: A Biography of the Imagination

Swift’s novel recalls, with deep whimsy and imagination, the life of its Clarissa Spellbinder, the love child of explorer Lord Andrew Spellbinder and the Amelita de la Luna. It also tells the life story (and romantic exploits) of Fat Satsuma Johnson, Clarissa’s next-door neighbor, and a champion pie-eater from southern Louisiana.

Williams performs this breathlessly told tale with a bright, energetic tone and characterizations that are vivid, comical, and joyful.
