About this listen

With forces I don't understand out to hurt my monsters, time is running out to figure out who–no, what–I am.

The weight of the world suddenly crashes on my shoulders, and I'm not sure how long I can carry it. I'm not like the heroes I've read about in books—I've just barely started understanding my powers, how am I going to save anyone?

Could the Fates have screwed up, putting me on this path?

When bodies begin to drop, it's crystal clear: time is up.

Do I tuck tail and hide with my monsters, or do I stand tall and fight for the first place I've ever felt like I could call home?

Monsters Below is book two in The Creatures We Crave series, which is set within the shared universe of Dark Imaginarium Academy. Intended for mature listeners.

I loved the performance but this book seemed SO rushed.
As much as I enjoyed the story and the links to others in this universe, I can't help but feel a bit cheated that we didn't get a scene with Elwin in this series. RH is usually about (somehow) managing the needs of multiple partners and this felt like it let him (and us) down spectacularly. He was a pure creation, devoted to her, prepared to remove evil from the world and it wasn't even hinted that he got his most intimate connection with Alexandra.
Admittedly, the self worth build up brought tears to my eyes and there was a LOT of friend and found family connection creation, but not really much development with her mates or plot hole closures.
After the slower pace of the previous books, this book felt SO rushed - learn about her friends challenges, meet and become the second daughter of the Queen of hell, move to Divinis with the Queen's best friend and her mates and child, meet and befriend Pandora, meet and train with an arch angel, existential crisis, level up training with mates and magic, get kidnapped by harpies, negotiate with both entrenched servents of Zeus AND the Curses, learn to connect to her monsters with writing again, meet Zeus, watch the Curses kill Zeus and Helen (with no fight at all, just a lot of inclement weather),the cavalry arrives, the second cavalry arrives,Alexandra saves the Queen of Hell by sacrificing....herself?
It was a heck of a LOT but no time for Elwin?
Especially as the last chapter was the final fight (no resolution for the servents, the killed guards, the Divinis family or the mates or... Anyone really) and then epilogues where we let go of Pandora AND HER MAGIC?? So what power does she have 🤷 what happens to her creations? 🤷 Do her mates still feed?🤷 What happens to the excess power they take now?🤷 why did it take until she was 21 before this all happened? 🤷
I feel quite.... unsatisfied even though I really like the characters and the universe😞

Rushed and unsatisfying

Book 2 picks up where book 1 left off.

It's more a developing character filler book. And it's filled with cute, cosy and sweet moments between Alexandre and her monsters. There's also more smex and more kinks being explored and they do it together in a safe place with trust and that's sweet too.

As well as our 3 monsters, connections with other FMCs from series in the same universe develop. There's trials and tests to come. I don't quite get the enemy angle here but the characters are what make this series and I'm all here for that

3.8 stars

good filler book
