About this listen

The perfect heartwarming listen, full of nostalgia and charm, for fans of Coronation Street.

It's 1940, and Annie Walker is the formidable landlady of the Rover's Return in Weatherfield. Her husband, Jack, has received his call up papers, and Annie must run the Rovers on her own while juggling one baby and another on the way.

Manchester has been severely bombed, and Weatherfield has already lost some of its residents and houses. Everyone is just about muddling through. The mothers of Coronation Street are being tested like never before, and when a face appears from the past, Annie will have more to worry about than Hitler's bombs....

Full of Coronation Street's trademark humour and warmth.

The narration and portrayal of characters flowed well - until the American GI appeared. This narrator can not do an American accent. It was terrible.

I like to flip between the audible and kindle version depending on whether I have time to read. And sadly, when I tried to read the kindle format, I couldn’t get the actor’s narration out of my head when the GI character appeared, and it spoilt my enjoyment of the story.

American accent off putting

I didn't like the way it was jumping every chapter from 1920's then 1940's, the 1st book was great, fingers crossed this will be a one off and the next will flow properly.

Enjoyed the history of the characters
