About this listen
Susan Wiles is driving home from open house on a winding mountain road, late at night. Nearly falling asleep at the wheel, she is startled when she hears something hit her Prius from out of nowhere. It's a dead woman lying in the road! Susan panics. Did she hit this pedestrian?
After calling for help, she notices that the body lying dead on the road is her school's assistant principal, Melissa Chadwick. Her detective daughter arrives at the scene and sensing something isn't right, discourages her mother from admitting guilt. Is this an accident, or a murder? Was Melissa killed by a coworker, someone with a grudge against her husband's recently relocated business, or someone very close to her heart?
Feeling responsible, retired teacher Susan Wiles puts on her sleuthing cap, determined to find the answer. Will she find the truth, or will tragedy once again strike the cozy New York town of Westbrook?

A tired Susan is driving home from a school function late at night when There is a bump in the road. Worried she has hit an animal she gets out to discover a body. A body she recognises, it's the new assistant principal for the very school she is helping at. When her detective daughter arrives in the scene she whisk Susan to the hospital to get checked out. Could the early signs of diabetes be the reason she is so tired and the cause of the crash? Lynette is not so sure her mum is the reason for the dead body lying in the road and thinks the woman had help falling from the bridge. The vice principal is new to town and other than the staff at the school hardly knows anybody else, this puts Susan in the perfect position to ask questions and get to the bottom of the murder. Then tragedy strikes the family and a second body is found leaving Susan with even more questions. At the same time she starts to worry about her mother's safety, as her new husband is showing signs of being abusive. Can Susan help her mum and find the killer?
I liked the narrator. She used her voice well to not only bring the characters to life but also the story.
