When Mike and Susan go to match day for Evan they’re invited to a swanky get together and Mrs. and Dr. Smith’s home. He is a well-known researcher and when he passes away during the luncheon of course Susan is on the case. She also meets a kindred Spirit who is also the mother of a detective, But solving a murder and nurturing a new friendship is an all Susan Hass to do in St. Louis. Mike is depressed and having health problems of his own on top of already being involved in the murder plot did I mention she also has a grandchildren and daughter with it. There’s no rest for the weary and the nosy at least not until you find the suspect I love Diane whiners books and although this is booked in and Sugarberry falls mysteries and I read it before I loved listening to it on audio. The narrator was awesome and it seems our plots just get better and better.

I loved this book. The characters are great and interesting but it was the mystery itself that I really enjoyed. It was nicely balanced with the medical reason for all the hospital visits, giving Susan plenty of time to question everybody. There was plenty of suspects and red herrings and it just played out nicely. I had my suspicions who the killer was but the motive was cleverly hidden, I did pick up on the clue and then promptly dismissed it for another suspects. I liked the fact that with Mike out of action Susan had a new sidekick, I hope we met her again. The author obviously did her homework before writing this book because it was easy to imagine being stuck in the hospital. This is book 10 in this great series but it does work well as a standalone if you you haven't listened or read the rest but then again why wouldn't you? I can't wait to start the next book.
With Evan's big day, Susan and Mike head to St. Louis to find out if there son and his girlfriend will get the residency they want together. To celebrate the Dean of the medical school holds a party at his house were he promptly died during the toast. He was over weight and a smoker but Susan doesn't think it was a heart attack. Mike's certainly was, to help her take her mind off Mike's fight in the surgery room, Susan finds a new sidekick and friend to help her play detective. The more they discover about the Dean the less they like him, even his own son hated him. He used his power to aid his own against not caring who got hurt in the process. Could his own studies be the reason he is dead? Then a tell all writer is killed in a bit and run, just hours before a new book was to be released exposing the Deans shady practice. Are the two deaths connected? and if so can Susan find the killer before she ends up like Mike struggling to stay alive?
I liked the narrator. The author choose to go with a different narrator with this book and I could imagine the characters a lot easier with this narrator than the previous one. Good job.
