About this listen

After rising to prominence for his role investigating the case of Jack the Ripper, former Detective Inspector Daniel Wilson is now retired. Known for his intelligence, his investigative skills, and most of all his discretion, he's often consulted when a case must be solved quickly and quietly. So when a body is found in the Egyptian collection of the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, Wilson is called in.

As he tries to uncover the identity of the dead man and the circumstances surrounding his demise, Wilson must contend with an unhelpful police inspector and Abigail Fenton, the archaeologist who discovered the body and is determined to protect the Egyptian collection. Can they find a way to work together to solve the mystery?

Really loved this. Good murder mystery. Story kept me interest especially the Egyptology references. Narrator was excellent and made the whole thing thoroughly enjoyable. Would highly recommend if you want to sit back and relax.

Good old fashioned murder mystery.

I enjoyed getting to know the two main characters. The plot was engaging enough to keep me listening. I look forward to the next story in this series.

An interesting enough plot and some nice period atmosphere but extremely pedestrian. I got fed up with the "he said... she said" narrative style, and frankly the "Victorian women" depiction was pretty poor... I was waiting for them all to "swoon at the sight of an ankle!" I don't think I'll follow this series.

Generally harmless, but disappointing

Narration by Peter Wickham makes it almost bearable - there really isn't much of a plot, just a series of loosely connected events and characters. I find myself wondering if it was a vanity published title?

Mesmerizingly dreadful.

Genteel story lacking in substance. Characters are rather lacking in personality traits that maintain interest. Unsurprising ending. Not a favourite.

Genteel detective story

And to be clear, I was looking for an entirely inoffensive detective procedural. Definitely enjoyed it, very happy to listen to the end even though the grand finale could be seen from about a mile up the track, but required no great concentration.

Exactly what I was looking for...

Not really my cup of tea as it’s too cosy but it filled in a few hours. Won’t read anymore of the series and bought as a DD.

Cosy Crime

I enjoyed this book immensely just the thing for light relief during lockdown. A welcome departure from the graphic detective novels of today. Entertainment personified! as a retired PC I want to enjoy my listening not a return to the real world. I don't want to appear to be critical of others it's just my way of dealing with the past.

The new Holmes/Jack Frost/Tom Barnaby
