About this listen

Normality is so over-rated. Boat life is better. In her debut memoir Narrow Margins, Marie Browne saved her family from financial ruin by moving her long-suffering husband, three children, and a dog on to a houseboat called Happy Go Lucky in search of a less stressful, alternative way of life. Now in Narrow Minds the family find themselves sucked back into normality, they’re pretty much back where they started: horrible house, no boat, and the kids are beginning to threaten mutiny.

Facing perky postmen, ice skating cows, psychotic villagers, and outraged rodents, they’re running out of time, their financial situation is getting desperate, and there’s every chance life has conspired against them to make sure they never get back afloat. Until they find the answer to their dreams lies with Minerva, a narrow boat even more run-down than the first. This hilarious follow-up shows the lengths to which a desperate woman will go just to restore her preferred lifestyle.

Slow start. Same format

Authors opinion of northerners seems a bit nasty. Lucy Scott reads this tale wonderfully. Lots of extraneous stuff and a little cliched at times.

Cruising for a bruising!..... but oh what a life

Alternative lifestyle, and then some! Having cast off the shackles of their previous existence, Marie, Geoff and the kids, plus Mortimer the mad Staffie and Lou the crazy hamster, show us how to live the Real Life!!!

This is my life.

Brilliant boater story. Fantastically written to describe life afloat. It is a very hard but rewarding way of life and there are the funny sides to it. No one in a house would wear 5 jumpers in winter and spend 2hrs trying to light a coal fire. We must be mad LOL. X

Enjoyable listen

I loved listening to this book as a follow up to wonderful Narrow Margains. Please release the other books on Audible too. I much prefer listening to Marie’s life story unfolding, and Lucy does the narration so well!!

Brilliant narration.

I read the first book but the trials and tribulations of life afloat was brought to life by the excellent narration in this Audible book, It brings the story and family to life and makes me want to listen to the first book.
