About this listen

A DANGEROUS CHASE. A SADISTIC KILLER.

DS Lucas Walker is on assignment for the AFP, and it couldn't be more personal. This is his last chance to take down Stefan Markovich - the Vandals leader who tried to have him killed after Walker uncovered his drug operation, and has evaded justice for years.

Having tracked Markovich to Berlin, Walker heads to Germany to lure his nemesis out of hiding and into custody. And there is another draw for Walker in Berlin: he finally gets to see Barbara again.

Still dealing with the trauma of her sister's ordeal in outback Australia, Barbara is working her own case - a suspicious death that casts a dark shadow over a peaceful lake colony. Everything about the horrific scene tells Barbara it's murder, and when a second body emerges she realises she is hunting a killer who is watching their victims die in agony.

As Walker and Barbara grapple with their cases, they must also face their feelings for each other - amid the constant threats of the world they inhabit.

The fourth gripping instalment in the bestselling, atmospheric DS Lucas Walker series is full of shocking twists and thrilling turns - for fans of Jane Harper, Cara Hunter and Chris Whitaker.©2025 Patricia Wolf (P)2025 Bonnier Books UK

A change of scene, with this installment set in Berlin rather than the Australian outback. I enjoyed following both investigations, Walker's and Barbara's. Excellent narrator too.

Gripping crime novel

I loved it!
Great narration, both Aussie and German twang, I've travelled in both countries and I really thought Adam nailed it.
The story was great, just enough reminders so I didn't feel I needed the previous books to set the scene.
Something missing in the last 10 minutes or so, But I'm guessing that's part of the planning and will all gel in the first chapter of the next book.
So Patricia, chop, chop where's the next?

Next please!

interstesting story line. the wil they / won't they situation with the main characters is compelling. I hope this isn't the last book

will there be another book?

Love the DS Walker books. Expanding on the relationships from the last book, this episode had some interesting twists and a good storyline.

Great storyline

Very absorbing continuation of DS Lucas Walker and German DS Barbara. This time with Walker flying to Berlin on the trail of criminal from previous storyline. Set in Berlin. with references to Australia. Very enjoyable. Good narration. Looking forward to the next book in this series.

Good dual storyline, continuation of series.

Well narrated. Easy to listen to

I've listened to all the DS Walker books and the narrator does a fantastic job... his voice is Lucas Walker's. The author spins wonderful stories and brings the Australian outback, Gold Coast and opal mining country vividly to life, so I'm unsure if it's because this story takes place mainly in Germany that it felt not quite up to the standard of the previous 3 books. However, this won't deter me from reading the next book in the series (although these books can be read as standalones, it seems a shame not to follow the story from the start).

Will they, won't they? Come on, Lucas and Barbara... get your act together!

Great narration of a two-string storyline.
