About this listen

For three days battle has raged in the snow around the great city of Tar Valon. In the city, a foretelling of the future is uttered. On the slopes of Dragonmount, the immense mountain that looms over the city, a child is born, an infant prophesied to change the world. That child must be found before he can be killed by the forces of the Shadow. And Moiraine Damodred, a young Accepted soon to be raised to Aes Sedai, and Lan Mandragoran, a young soldier fighting in the battle, are set on paths that will bind their lives together. But those paths are filled with complications and dangers, for Moiraine is of the Royal House of Cairhien, whose King has just died, and Lan is considered the uncrowned king of a nation long dead, and the plots of those seeking power threaten their lives. The novella "New Spring" told a part of the story, in compressed form...the novel New Spring tells the whole story.Listen to more books in The Wheel of Time series.©2004 Robert Jordan (P)2004 Audio Renaissance, a division of Holtzbrinck Publishers, LLC and Books on Tape, Inc. Great prequel

Enjoyed learning more about Lan and Moiraine's back story. I have two of the books left in the series. Can't wait!

Wonderful look at the past of beloved characters

This was a good book but not great. It feels a bit rushed in places, especially the ending. Although the ending is very satisfying due to its somewhat pyrrhic nature.

I think its a clever way to do a prequel because whilst by its nature you know some aspect of the ending, you only know the outcome of one relationship and three characters meaning the stakes felt real.

As ever the narration by Kramer and Reading are sublime. They bring these books to life so vividly that the characters feel like close friends.

Gripping to the very end

I loved the female reader. She took you right into the story and head of Moreen.
Very worth while to listen to but know you will be hooked. Thanks for the many more books to come.

Tasty Taster

Ever wanted a taste of The Wheel but too scared to munch on the bigger books. Try this one out for size, and sample the literary style of Robert Jordan

Feels Bad, But Narration Wasn't My Favorite

I'm not a huge fan of American-izing high fantasy but it wasn't too bad and both narrators really can read well... but the occasional pronunciation left me wincing. Zee-nith? Ow. I'm still smarting from it days later. And some of the character names, place names, etc. are also handled horribly for my ears. So, sorry Kate and Michael, I know you both do good work but this was harder going than it need to be. It's one of my favorite books series of all time, I was hoping for more.

Entertaining if you are a fan

I liked this as it deconstructed the style of the series. Short, focused, deep dive on just characters, emotionally driven.

excellent

I love these narrators, they're two of my favourites however I wish Michael Kramer had spoken a touch slower.

Good pace and interesting characters.

Struggled a bit with the male narrator but the story was compelling enough to persevere.
