Summary

No Easy Deeds is neither a time travel novel nor a rom-com, but it cleverly blends elements of both genres. Genuinely funny, nostalgic, and occasionally touching, it’s another gem of a story from the bestselling British author, Keith A Pearson.

Not that he's counting but, 409 days ago, life was rosy for Danny Monk. Today, the 3rd of September 1990, Danny's future seems almost as bleak as the British economy in the new decade - the glamour and glitz of the '80s replaced by a deep recession, crippling interest rates, and mass riots over the poll tax.

Then, by pure chance, Danny stumbles upon a new job opportunity. The prospect of becoming an estate agent holds little appeal but, as one of the two million unemployed, any job is better than no job. Danny accepts the role of trainee negotiator with Gibley Smith.

Little does he know it, but Danny's new job will result in the strangest of encounters, and an offer that seems almost too good to be true - complete a somewhat unorthodox challenge in exchange for the deeds of a detached house.

What Danny doesn't realise is that there's far more to both his challenge and reward than he could possibly imagine. For better or for worse, 1990 is destined to be the year that irrevocably changes Danny Monk's future.

The Author smashes it again!! Another highly satisfying Time Travel adventure!

After reading (listening) to every one of Keith A Pearson's books (twice at least), I'm seriously beginning to think this guy is a genuine time traveller. The way he catapults you into a world of nostalgia makes you feel you are there all over again. It's not just the references to music, shops, confectionery etc, it's the entire charachter make up. 86 Fix will always be my favourite therefore this felt like another masterpiece in time travelling adventures. This was a superb listen with the narrator doing the authors excellent storytelling justice. The Yorkshire accent in particular was brilliant and portrayed the charachters personality in such a perfect way. Another set of chatachters you can warm to and make you feel like you know them. Outstanding plot and I personally can't wait for the next installment. Thanks again Keith for sending me back to my younger years and making me feel all warm inside. 10/10

“Believable” Time Travel

I inhale audiobooks at an alarming rate, and I’ve yet to find another author as dependable as Keith A Pearson. Every book is a cracker and this is one of my favourites. A seamless blend of humour, intrigue and, of course, time travel! Matt Jopling’s narration was a triumph and really plants you in the middle of Danny’s story.

Give it a go! Or you’ll wish you could go back in time and talk some sense into yourself…

Keith nailed it again.

I loved this book, all the characters were so real and it took me back to 1990 when I was first working in an office next door to an estate agent. Thanks for the reminder of Drakkar Noir and Kouros too!

Great new addition to the Keith Collection!

Loved it, huge fan of Keith’s previous work anyway and this was no exception. Reminded me of his first book - The 86 Fix, with a nice twist at the end. Really interesting storyline, not just for sci-fi fans. Lots of lovely nostalgic themes and memories of my 80s/90s childhood! I really liked the introduction to the new characters and look forward to hearing more about Danny and the team at Gibley Smith in the next book - roll on spring 2025!

slow burn easy listen

A good book, although a little slow getting going, it was nice to get to know the new characters and felt there is plenty more mileage in the follow up book(s).

I particularly liked the suspenseful ending leaving a lot of un answered questions.

if your looking for a classic Pearson novel which is easy to follow and one that takes you for a romp down memory lane, look no further.

well done Keith, keep up the excellent work.

A virtual page turner

The narration was great, the storyline was excellent and has left me wanting more.
Before the book was halfway through I was already sad about the fact this is the first book in a new series and I wouldn't be able to download the next one immediately afterwards. I listened to the book in two sittings over two days while working from home. So it really was a page turner for me.

A great storyteller

In advance I’ll say I love most of Keith’s books. They’re like a little holiday from reality and this is no exception. It’s a cracking story, brilliantly brought to life by Matt Jopling. Some other authors go heavy on the humour and fantasy in this genre but Keith keeps it on the far on the other side of time travel fiction and writes in a way that brings out the reality of human situations rather than the fantastical side. Danny Monk is a man with a plethora of issues, financially and emotionally. Working in a job for a boss he loathes, tied to a woman he loves but doesn’t like due to bad mortgage advice, until an offer of a potential fortune comes along, but with many, many strings attached. Can Danny save his home and his sanity as the issues pile around his head? It’s a grand old tale to listen to and the twists and turns continue right up to the end. Can’t wait for the next part!
