About this listen

No Simple Death is a murder mystery with a touch of romance, set in the Dublin suburbs. It will appeal to fans of authors such as Peter James, LJ Ross and Ruth Rendall.

When Detective Mike West is called to investigate a murder in a Dublin graveyard, suspicion immediately falls on a local woman, Edel Johnson, whose husband disappeared some months before. But then she disappears. Evidence leads West to a small village in Cornwall, but when he arrives, he finds Edel has got there before him. Her explanation seems to make sense, but as West begins to think his suspicions of her are unfounded, she disappears again.

Is she guilty? West, fighting an unsuitable attraction, doesn't want to believe it. But the case against her is growing. Back in Dublin, his team uncover evidence of blackmail and illegal drugs involving Edel’s husband. When another man is murdered, she, once again, comes under suspicion.

An easy to listen to story

I enjoyed this u challenging plot. I certainly have more knowledge of S. Ireland. The only negative for me was the awful monotonous uninterested tone of the Narrator and his painful accents.

It's a thought that I have to suffer his drone for the rest of the series.

Sometimes too wordy but you got to know the characters by this intimacy. Loved the story telling with the Irish lilt

Awful narration

Story would need much better with a different narrator. His monotone expressionless voice made me almost suicidal 😫. Can’t listen to next book of same narrator

Tantalisingly twisty plot

Loved the storyline but did end up shouting when the heroine kept putting herself in stupidly dangerous situations for no good reason. Nonetheless it's a great twisty tale and you don't entirely know where it's going, which I love. One thing worth mentioning is that the audio on this is a bit odd as the volume continually goes up and down so you're forever adjusting it.

Something wrong with the police procedures!

This was free, otherwise I would have returned it. As it was I skipped through it, I don’t think the author has a good grasp of police procedures and/or the police in Ireland are incompetent! Do they really not issue search warrants at weekends? So many holes in the story. I did read most of the first one in the series - it lost me when the bad guy was called Cyril Pratt! I do wonder how the books actually get published without an editor pointing out the inconsistencies. The narrator was OK but did leave gaps between sentences.

Story

It was quite a complicated story but very well read and easy to follow. This was a really good read and now I will check out the author so that I can read more of her books.

Good storyline

Really enjoyed listening to this story with lots of twists and turns. Occasionally the narrator sounded a bit stilted but didn’t ruin it.

Unexpectedly good

Very good whodunnit set in Ireland. Reader is easy to listen to and the plot unfolds in a way that keeps you glued to audible.
