Summary

'Arresting and vivid, raw and breathtaking...told with stunning originality' DOLLY ALDERTON, author of EVERYTHING I KNOW ABOUT LOVE

'Annie Lord tells us a story at once both specific and universal' SHON FAYE, author of THE TRANSGENDER ISSUE

'An electrifying debut' CAROLINE O'DONOGHUE, author of THE RACHEL INCIDENT

Dark, fierce and raw, Notes on Heartbreak is a love story told in reverse...

Reeling from a broken heart, Annie Lord revisits the past - from the moment she first fell in love, the shared in-jokes and intertwining of a long-term relationship, to the months that saw the slow erosion of a bond five years in the making.

Charting her attempts to move on, Annie explores the ups and downs of being newly single, from disastrous rebound sex to sending ill-advised nudes, stalking your ex's new girlfriend on Instagram and the sharp indignity of being ghosted.

This stunning exploration of love and heartbreak from cult journalist and Vogue columnist Annie Lord, is so much more than a book about one singular break-up. It is an unflinchingly honest account of the simultaneous joy and pain of being in love that will resonate with anyone who has ever nursed a broken heart.

It's a book about the best and worst of love: the euphoric and the painful, the beautiful and the messy.

Perfect for fans of Everything I Know About Love, Conversations on Love and Three Women.

Feels so raw and real

This book really surprised me. Listening to the thoughts and feelings of Annie made me feel less alone in the way I used to think. This book doesn’t pretend to be a fairytale and doesn’t teach lessons like other books. I simply reminds you that your feelings and thoughts during a heartbroken time are normal and not always a reflection on who you are. Couldn’t recommend this book more! Going to buy the physical copy so I can give it to friends as a must read

Comforting

It’s really comforting to listen to if you are or have been experiencing heartbreak, the ending was actually quite beautiful and made me tear up 😅 I hope I’ll get to feel like that at some point too but the whole of Annie’s storytelling reminds me that’s it’s ok to be up and down and getting over heartbreak isn’t always linear. I really liked the reading too, was very authentic coming from the author. Thank you for writing and recording this Annie 🙏

Wonderful

If you have suffered heartbreak of any kind, this book will apply to you, and will give you words for many of the feelings you have experienced. On top of this it is an honest account and a story of a relationship to enjoy.
Notes on Heartbreak is a very thought provoking and meaningful listen. It is the honest, open hearted and truthful account of the ending of a deep relationship, but so much more than this as well. I feel I need to buy the hardback copy so I can retain some of Annie’s expression of feelings; for example emotional pain being like a tarantula inside you that keeps extending its legs. Above all though this is entertaining and very, very well read with excellent expression and nuance. Such a good listen.
Thank you to the author Annie Lord for such a truly good, enjoyable book.
