Summary

Some would call this an autobiography. Others would say it’s a hell of a story. I call it my life. Living it had become the norm, but choosing to write about it wasn’t easy. It’s one thing to react to whatever life throws at you, and another to reflect on it. I’ve been sentenced to life imprisonment and confined to a prison within a prison, for a crime I did not commit. Being outspoken and relentless in fighting for justice had become my only choice, and as it turns out, my redemption. My personal life, on the other hand, I have chosen to keep private. Until now.

For the first time ever, this audiobook will walk you through my improbable personal journey with brutal honesty. The good, the bad and the ugly. My story, combined with an exceptional journey to the forefront of investigative journalism remains unparalleled. As the host of the critically-acclaimed Netflix series Inside the World’s Toughest Prisons, I continue to do what no-one else has ever done before.

I am Raphael Rowe and my career was born as a result of spending 12 years in prison for crimes I did not commit.

All this has inspired me to try to make positive changes in prison systems throughout the world. I believe passionately that we can make such changes, and this is why I have set up the Raphael Rowe Foundation.

Honest and Inspirational

Naration by Raphael added so much authenticity to the story. I felt genuine anger for him but was also inspired by his courage and tenacity in the face of overwhelming prejudice, both on and out of prison. Brilliant

Inspirational and Informative

Incredible story of strength, perseverance and hope. Well-narrated and easy to listen to. Not just an autobiography but also a clear reminder that injustice happens everywhere and those in a position of power or influence need to use their voices to help those who cannot help themselves.

Honest and gripping

An honest and gripping account of the subject matter, made more palatable by the narrator having lived it.

Very strong character to come out the other end of this story a better person

Very sad but inspiring story that kept me on the edge of my seat. Good to see the injustice overturned in the end

Interesting

Interesting and open honest account about Raphael’s beginnings, the fact the Raphael’s narrates his own book makes it that more authentic, can’t fault his determination and fight to be free from prison.

An amazing listen

If you want to hear a book about strength and struggle this is an excellent one. I listened to it, read by Raphael himself. From being jailed for a crime he didn’t commit to being a journalist and then onwards and upwards. Superb stuff!

Much like Tez Ilias’s book, it brings about tales or institutional racism that I’ve never experienced aimed at me, but is so gutting to hear about. It’s a book that makes you wonder what happened to justice and truth, and want to fight for it. It’s also a book with a great big silver lining. Though Raphael’s struggles are now day to day ones, not fighting for freedom, many are less fortunate. As well as laughs and funny sections, it’s thought provoking and inspirational.

A great listen. Cheers Raphael!

Interesting

His voice sent me to sleep and it took a while to get to the end of the book, but it was well worth a listen.

Must listen

It feels wrong to say that Rowe’s story is “interesting” due to the miscarriage of justice and wrongful incarceration he experienced. But it’s an amazing story, well told by the man himself. I finished this within a couple of days, which is unusual for me!
