About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
An extraordinary new novel by the Pulitzer Prize-winning, Number One New York Times bestselling author of Olive Kitteridge and My Name is Lucy Barton
Olive, Again follows the blunt, contradictory yet deeply loveable Olive Kitteridge as she grows older, navigating the second half of her life as she comes to terms with the changes - sometimes welcome, sometimes not - in her own existence and in those around her.
Olive adjusts to her new life with her second husband, challenges her estranged son and his family to accept him, experiences loss and loneliness, witnesses the triumphs and heartbreaks of her friends and neighbours in the small coastal town of Crosby, Maine - and, finally, opens herself to new lessons about life.
'One of America's finest writers' Sunday Times
'A powerful storyteller immersed in the nuances of human relationships' Observer
'Strout really can write you into a world until you feel you are there with her, in that house, that life, that little Podunk of a place' The Times

Could not stop listening ..
I read Olive Kitteridge a couple of years back. Getting older I switched to Audible. It’s wonderful so is the book I’ve just listened to read so very well throughout. Olive, Again … staying true to her somewhat on the spectrum … intensely herself but then again surprising herself right to the end. Such a great, insightful writer … adding momentum and telling the tale of old age … and confusion. The one thing I felt was that when Olive had her heart attack and was saved by the speedy arrival of paramedics … this would not happen today with our NHS .. Olive’s story would have ended there behind the wheel some chapters ago… but this is fiction. An excellent book which being in the latter part of my life made me shed tears at the end for its authenticity. Well done Elizabeth Strout and thank you to the storyteller Kimberley Farr 😊

Sensational
Farr captures the essence of Olive and what a delight these stories are! They are moving, often laugh-out loud funny and very uplifting - quite a feat considering the subject - old age.

Wonderful
I loved this. The stories were so entertaining, although sometimes sad, and the narrator was perfect
(I pictured Frances McDormand speaking the whole way through!).
I'm sorry we won't hear any more about Olive, I could listen to her forever!

LOVED THIS BOOK IMMENSELY!!
"Olive Again" reached all my deepest emotions and silly worries with wonderful humour and realism! Above all it impacted me with its insights of true and patient LOVE! An unforgettable book, a life-changing one with the complete expression of our human condition, in all it facets, so lyrically and concisely expressed. Anyone who has paused for deep thought as they gradually age and experience losses will be hilariously entertained one moment and the next they will feel a deep, recognizable sadness but finally they will be filled with a sense of gratitude and love for the writing of Elizabeth Strout! I will listen to the beautiful narration again and again! Somehow this book is COMFORTING, like one's most beloved piece of BACH's music!

Gentle narrative
I have thoroughly enjoyed both “Olive” books. The attention to detail in the stories is illuminating and makes Olive into a very real, flawed person. Nevertheless, there is a narrative throughout that keeps the reader’s attention. The performance is perfect and beautifully paced to match the subject matter.
Do you have to be a woman of a certain age to enjoy the stories? Not necessarily - but it helps!

A fitting follow up for Olive !
Elizabeth Strout has given us another gem. Olive continues to be difficult and outspoken and at the same time so in touch and humane.
The book takes us through a new partnership, family alienation, illness death of loved ones, increasing decrepitude and facing one's own death. Through all this, it is not maudlin or depressing, it is often wise insightful and very funny.
Elizabeth Strout has cleverly interwoven characters, previously encountered in 'Olive Kitteridge' and has developed or continued their stories for us too.
I liked so much I just had to keep on listening and now I'm sad the story is over.

Brilliant!
Just finished Elizabeth Strout ‘olive, again’- have loved all her books - particular as audiobooks, not big subjects but extraordinarily profound insight in the banality of everyday life.
